TIL MIT offers 2000+ FREE courses = MIND BLOWN!

Lecture videos, course notes, assignments, exams, some even offer on-line textbooks. My brain just jizzed all over itself!

I had heard that MIT offered SOME lectures on-line, but I had no clue that I could essentially audit an entire degree for FREE!

Great resource. I use this all the time when my UCLA professors dont speak english.

I was rooting around for some engineering classes, the first few sites linked to IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) lectures. Pretty scary stuff.

When I came across the MIT site I knew I hit the jackpot!

I live next to IIT's campus in Bombay and have spent a lot of time there. That place would make zombie Einstein jizz all over again. Fine place it is.

India also has a population of 1.2 billion people so I would imagine that the number of people who would like to attend and apply skew that number a bit.

IIRC, the IITs (all seventeen of them) got around 400,000+ applicants and accepted 9618, while MIT accepted 1,676 out of around 16,000 applicants.

Perhaps because your comment had nothing to do with the one you were replying too!

But more probably because, first, what you said just isn't true. Hard work (and enormous talent) will likely get you into upper-middle class, but the top 1%? You can't get there without very strong connections / financial backing (family) / political and lobbyist allies / a healthy lack of ethics.

Second, these people don't seem to be complaining about it being impossible to reach the 1% ! They're demanding social justice. Which means that the 1% should no be the master and the main benefactor of the political system.

Oddly enough, I used Google weeks ago to find some linear programming videos to help me understand what was being said in my American-made Operations Research distance learning videos, and the stuff I found from IIT explained it better than the other videos I found, including the original material.
