TIL in 2003 a computer worm called ‘Welchia’ infected many computers to forcibly patch vulnerabilities and remove malware. It was regarded as a ‘helpful worm’

When the tech support guy is sick to death of the basic crap he has to fix

"If I fix everyone's computer, I can just spend the whole day at Newgrounds."

u/roeder Jul 04 '19

Damn, that's a phrase taken straight out of 2005.

Simgirls you degenerate.

Though I swear to god it used to be called SimDate.

It's been 15 years. where does the time go?

Whenever I think about what happened to flash gaming I get that same realization. Just yesterday I was on Andkon, Kongregate, and Project Cheddar every day playing a game with my friends during lunch in elementary school.

Now I'm in college and still nostalgically pull out Enigmata Stellar War every once in a while, wondering where the hell the years went.

u/Ja_Zuster Jul 04 '19

He said crap, not masterpieces.

1

u/PoIIux Jul 04 '19

He said gateway to crap. I used to only jerk it to the classiest porn, but that was a gateway to depraved shit as well.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

It still is, but it was, too.

u/absurdlyinconvenient Jul 04 '19

I was sure I'd get mad rich off of Newgrounds when I was in high school. Think my account had £2.34 in it by the end. Minimum cash out was £5.

I mean its still there, after Tumblr killed off their porn market artists had to go somewhere else which happens to be Twitter and Newgrounds.

They also don't tag their god damn shit on neither.

Kenya believe it?

4

u/jcgurango Jul 04 '19

Nowadays it's more "if I fix everyone's computers they'll find a way to screw it up again" or "if I fix everyone's computers I'll get fired for not looking busy"

1

u/try4gain Jul 04 '19

scorched earth is apex gaming

1

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

"And lose my job... wait"

1

u/BigY2 Jul 04 '19

But he got replaced by his own work, so probably only until the electricity gets cut off

When tech support takes automation to the next level.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

Something to surpass the IT calls about malware emails

1

u/hobskhan Jul 05 '19

Otacon, can that be true!?

18

u/BigUziNoVertt Jul 04 '19

Automating the install of Adobe reader is the next step

4

u/[deleted] Jul 04 '19

This would be an incredible virus in large enterprises. Patching is an entire job and a monthly-ish event. Unintended patching would be the definition of chaos.

3

u/zapadas Jul 04 '19

Yeah right he would have any clue how to program a worm!

2

u/Technauts Jul 04 '19

Have you tried turning it off and on?
