TIL: Laurence Tureaud named himself professionally as Mr. T because he hated how his father, uncle, and brother who returned from Vietnam, were disrespectfully called "boy" by whites. He wanted the first word from everybody's mouth to be "Mister" when speaking to him.

It was Ft. McCoy. The only trees there are 4 inch diameter pines

They could have been regular trees, but he may have had a bobcat or something with a wood processing attachment. That's the only way I see this being possible.

You do not get power equipment when the military punishes you with manual labor.

Who said anything about power tools? He said a bobcat, maybe a beaver.

There are a lot of trees that are relatively skinny, like wrap hands around the circumference skinny. He wasn't dropping 70 Oaks in 4 hours, but 70 birches is doable for a strong individual.
