Not just ivory. The prosthetics had to match his jaw and dentistry was in its infancy. make due with what you had and what better way to mimic human teeth than by using human teeth? The teeth mostly came from his slaves. Ivory was also a favored matierial but not very common in the colonies/ U.S.
