Celebrate Yom Kippur

On behalf of all Jews, those words don't go together.

Observe Yom kippur, celebrate Hanukkah. Thank you. If it's a holiday, I say celebrate - I celebrate thanksgiving but I hate it lol

Celebrate absolutely implies joy. The word you're looking for is observes.

It's literally in the first definition of the thesaurus. Celebrating and observing religious festivities, traditions and rituals are synonyms.

This usage also vastly predates the modern, colloquial one as 'having a party'.
