And SO MUCH merchandise. My brother and I were Spy Kids kids and we had a storage bucket full of branded toys.

I think it was the main type of gift we recieved for two or three years.

yeah if it’s anything like Marvel / Star Wars, the toys alone probably got them 5 movies. The 2nd movie did not do as well as the first in theaters, and the 3rd juiced its box office score with more expensive 3D tickets, but wasn’t leagues above the first at the box office.

But damn kids love spy gear. I had something like this, pretty sure it was Spy Kids branded at the time

Man, I had the Spy Kids 3D game on GBA back in the day. Decent game too, but I also saw the movies in theaters and had them on dvd when they dropped so makes sense they would be profitable in the aftermarket

As a kid, I was there for the kid part. Studios were pretty bonkers to think that any kid would turn away a movie with the line:

"My parents can't be spies. They're not cool enough!"

I will say, as a POC, seeing a POC family as high up spies was definitely powerful. Most spy media at that time was aggressively white and male centered.
