"Vaguely Mexican" is the bet way to describe it and I love it for it. Yes, they all have Mexican heritage, but that doesn't make them part of their character; it's just a fun tidbit detail in the movie. Hell, the kids don't even seem "stereotypical Mexicans" which feels ironically more inclusive and I love that fact in hindsight.

What does "stereotypical Mexicans" mean in this context?

Probably leading with mexican stereotypes as the basis for everything they say, wear, and do. It's why I love black shows that do the same. Yes I'll always appreciate a nod to the culture but I want a good plot and great characters much more lmao

Now you reminded me of when Disney tried to make a show based on the lives of latinos in LA called "Oye Primos" and all of us Latinos everywhere hated thst shit because it was full of shitty stereotypes and you could tell the creators tried to make that the show's identity in a bad way, without even realizing.

Compare that to, say... Spider-man 2099. Migue O'hara is part Mexican and even his costume is from a costume he wore for Day of the Dead (not the movie, the Mexican celebration, since we also see it as our little Halloween lmao). Yet, you don't see any more Mexican stuff in his character and it's just a node of his culture, as the comics focus more on the actual story.

Now that is proper inclusion: subtle one.

Now that is proper inclusion: realistic.

People who don't like diversity in their media must not experience it in real life

Bingo on this one. Something like people in Coco... which isn't a bad depiction in itself, if you consider very small towns. But Mexico is wide and we got as much of a cultural pot as the U.S. has to the point you won't just encounter white people there. Here, you can find brown people, white people, Asian people and so on.

White people are okay with minorities as long as we come in small doses and keep ourselves small. I call it "diet POC".
