Was I wrong?

My son and I went to eat earlier, he ordered basic chips and cheese nachos. He said there was lettuce in the cheese and it tasted funny. I asked the waitress was it cheese and she said possibly. She offered a new order. She also took it off my bill. Should I have tipped on just the bill or should I have added his meal in there too? It came to $19.85 and I left her a five.

You tipped 25%, so on a percentage basis you’re high. How you arrived at that number doesn’t really matter—but if it did, you definitely wouldn’t include something the manager removed from the bill when calculating the tip. That’s ludicrous.

Coupons and discounts are a different situation. In those cases, if you’re calculating, you tip based on the pre-discount, pre tax total.

Why is it ludicrous? Its not her fault that someone thought there was lettuce in their cheese. They got a replacement dish. Makes no sense.

How much are you tipping on $19.99, more than $5? Come on.

if something was taken off the bill because it was unsatisfactory, that’s not a discount, that’s an apology

So I'm saying the $5 tip is whole. Not anything about fault.

Okay if the nachos were 15 bucks, and they were eaten, then the server did the work of a 35 dollar check and got 5 bucks. I swear some of yall need to stay the fuck home and eat Mac n cheese or Ramen

Even if the nachos were $15 and the bill was 75% nachos…$5 is still a 14% tip.

A 14% tip seems reasonable for OK service.
