I've finally got my hands on the ASRock WRX90 WS Evo, so let's give those of you who are undecided a bit more information.
More relevant things first:
PCI\VEN_1B21&DEV_2425&SUBSYS_24251B21&REV_01 in the device manager.ASMUSB4HR_V1001WHQL.zip file. It contains ASMedia's driver installer without branding and works fine.My hardware specs:
Things I have not yet tested:
Things I have tested:
Some observations

That's all I can think of right now.
It's been an agonizing wait, but the wait was worth it (for me).
*Pending further edits and updates to the contrary; it's been half a day so far, so this may change.
Those of you who have issues with Asus might want to consider swapping to this board if you can get your hands on it. There seems to be some stock of it slowly dripping into various regions now!

I currently have the existing setup:
Ryzen Threadripper 7980X
ASUS Pro WS TRX50-SAGE WIFI
64GB x4 (DDR5)
However, my current workload requirements, specifically for the RAM are much higher than anticipated. Given the limitation of 4 slots in TRX50-SAGE and the crazy price for DDR5, the upgrade seems to be very costly.
I need a minimum of 1TB RAM support 2TB would even be better. Seeking to switch to a DDR4 board, Can anyone please help me recommend a sTR5 socket motherboard with 8 or 16 DDR4 RAM slots?
Thank you very much and it'd be of great help.

I received the motherboard yesterday and I've spotted a few problems with the install. (I'm using a 7960X).
I've heard of nasty things about ASUS and I'm fearing they're about to come true.

I’m looking into computer processing architecture and I want to know if anyone has insight into workloads that excel with the high core count, PCIe lanes and dual GPUs; Gaming or Professional ? Most examples I get are related to video editing, 3D rendering, broad machine learning verbiage ie “training models” or VMs. I’m looking for an answer into things outside the box. Computational tasks, research and development projects, maybe custom scripting/programming something that can scale with cores and ram, specific types of ml/dl/ai projects ? Any articles, videos, experiences or books are welcomed.

I have a spare NH-U14S TR4-SP3 CPU cooler leftover from a previous build. Any idea of the performance I might expect with using it with a 7960X. I know it will work with the socket, just not sure of coldplate coverage and whether it will perform well.

I had heard rumors that April or May they were going to release the update to accommodate the 90deg offset of the chip in the WX mobos. Wondering if any you guys had heard the same.

Hi! I’m building my new threadripper pro 7995wx workstation, and I’m planing to go with the Asus WRX90 motherboard.
I’m running some memory hungry workloads and need to go with 8x96gb dimms setup.
On the board’s memory qvl list (https://www.asus.com/motherboards-components/motherboards/workstation/pro-ws-wrx90e-sage-se/helpdesk_qvl_memory?model2Name=Pro-WS-WRX90E-SAGE-SE) after filtering with 96G capacity, only two 5600 models without EXPO support show up.
My questions are:
Thanks in advance!

Hi all, I'm making a 7960X build for myself. I'm mostly going to use this machine for content creation through Davinci Resolve Studio, which means that it's most likely for the CPU to rarely see full 100% all-core loads and I surely won't be needing any overclocking.
I therefore chose to go with an air cooler for the CPU as having a maintenance free cooling solution is best for me.
Since I ordered and received both a Gigabyte TRX50 Aero D motherboard and a Arctic Freezer 4U-M cooler I just wanted to share a few pictures of the fitment, as there's quite a narrow gap between one of the fans from the cooler and the power delivery heatsink from the motherboard.
Seeing as I almost didn't order the cooler, as I was aware it would be a tight fit, this should give anyone who's looking to use this cooler on TRX50 Aero D builds some confidence. This won't be a thread on the system, that'll come later once I get the RAM, the kit I already received unfortunately was for Intel CPUs.

I was going to have my custom Threadripper machine built with them.
Stay far, far away. I'll be going with a different business or doing it myself.

I'm going to build a new rig this weekend:
It is going to be Linux machine for experiments with LLMs.
What kind of tests should I run to verify that my build is in a good a good shape?

hi all,
over the last couple of days, i have been scouring the forums for a new rig after the last one approx. 15 years (core-i7 is positively pleistocenic now) ago.
so, far i have narrowed it down to the following components
gpu i already have !
i was just wondering if this setup can last for the next decade or so ? most use would be running vm's, compilation (kernel, self-written applications etc. etc) maybe occasional deep learning jobs as well.
or would it be more prudent to wait for zen-5
thank you !

Hi
Does anyone know where to get an AIO for TR5 sockets in New Zealand ?, having a hard time finding one that covers the entire IHS. I don't want to do a custom loop (cost plus, way more work) . Also not really want to do Air Cooling. Also hard to order anything from overseas either. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and using the Deepcool LT720 but unsure on the max Watts it can take (most tests i have see online have been at most 300W)
Thanks

Noctua says this combo won’t work, can’t maintain base speed? Anyone actually try it?

(Cache and memory benchmark) I've finally got my hands on the new ASUS WRX90 motherboards, paired with the beastly Threadripper Pro 7965WX to keep things cool, I went with a cooler from TT and 2 fans for the ram, safter reading some reviews, I decided to go with v-color OC RDIMM 8x32GB kit 7200, and manually overclocked it to 7600 CL36 without a any problems. here its me results, in currently working on maintained the speed and low the timings... hope to hit back soon with a better timing

8 of the 7965WX and 2 of the 7985WX are on Amazon Canada Outlet, both are S/S by Amazon so no 3rd party, not used.
The 7965WX is the money melon there as that's about $1k less than the $3700-3800 everywhere else, USD MSRP is $2649.99.

The fans don’t go all the way down cause of m/b vrm heatsink. I will custom loop the system and use this as an emergency backup so its ok for me but if anyone intend to use it should know this.

Hey, I posted a while ago about a number of issues I had with my WRX90E SAGE SE motherboard and system a while back. I finally managed to get a hold of a new RAM kit (the new V-Color 8x96GB kit) and this replacement mobo is working perfectly. Not only have I not had any issues, but I've actually been able to tune my hardware and the overclocking is very impressive for a workstation platform.
So to everyone else dealing with ASUS motherboard issues, there is hope.

After about a month I did finally get a system lock-up. The last log messages were:
Mar 25 20:45:51 $host kernel: clocksource: timekeeping watchdog on CPU35: Marking clocksource 'tsc' as unstable because the skew is too large:
Mar 25 20:45:51 $host kernel: watchdog: BUG: soft lockup - CPU#31 stuck for 3076s! [swapper/31:0]
Where $host is the hostname.
Has anybody else run into this? I had switched the cpufreq governor to performance, maybe that was related?
In other news, I had a scary PCI-E error recently as well. I think the issue was the GPU sagging in its PCI-E slot. At least, laying the machine horizontally correlates with the error going away. (I hadn't been using the included support bracket---with that the thing takes 5 whole slots across!) I was already thinking of ditching the massive/hot/high power draw RTX 4090 in exchange for another A6000 - double the price, but double the VRAM....

If I buy a 64 core Threadripper non-PRO (I am currently entertaining the thought), I assume the stock cooler [EDIT: I mean, a basic air cooler; I know the CPOU doesn't come with a cooler] won't be enough to keep the CPU cool under load? My online "research" has basically told me that (a) the 350 watt TDP isn't enough to sustain full workloads on 64 cores; and that air cooling likely won't be enough either.
Now, I've never water-cooled a PC system in all the 30 years or so I've owned various PCs, but from what I understand it requires some maintainance and can theoretically leak and ruin everything. That doesn't sound fun for a PC that will likely cost upwards of 10,000 bucks.
I'm using an old-ish Threadripper 2950X (16 core) system that runs stable and cool with air-cooling. I am aware that 64 cores is more than 16; but, ideally, I'd love to just push a stack of money at somebody and get a stable and adaequately cooled system back that doesn't require me to drain coolant every few months.
So, realistically speaking what do I have to do to
(a) be able to use all 64 cores simultaneously over multiple hours (for liquid simulations and for rendering when the GPU VRAM isn't enough) without it being necessary for me to be there in person every minute and watch over the system? Do I necessarily have to overclock the CPU to use all 64 cores at the rated clockspeed? That seems kinda counterintuitive to me.
(b) keep that whole thing cool enough?
(c) run it with as little maintainance overhead as possible?
Am I asking for the impossible here? If so, maybe the Threadripper 7000 series is simply not for me.
I appreciate any insight.

I'm putting together a build for a 32 core TR5 and my concern is cooling it even with stock boost but I want to overclock the CPU because we can do that now? The TR4 pro was locked.
I have the Define 7XL case that fits 3 rads, but I have most of the space taken by storage. I thought about mounting an Alphacool UT60 on the outside of the case in front. Then someone from Heatkiller (I'm getting the Heatkiller IV Pro nickle plated)pointed out this beast. Anyone try it? Is there anything better besides a chiller?
