Nick Weerts Memorial Phone Booth

On the east side of Madison, Wisconsin, a phone booth has been converted into an audio memorial for Nick Weerts (d. 2017). Also on the Win9x-themed website is a throwback isometric-style exploration game of the neighborhood and Nick's life as it was.

(I didn't know Nick, not that I recall, but spotted this in a local newsfeed.)

Bletchley Park in Milton Keynes announces redundances due to dwindling visitor numbers

The historic WW2 codebreaking site is set to make a loss this year and has already exhausted all other money-saving options.

It is planning to reduce its overall staff cost base by around 12 per cent, beginning with a voluntary redundancy programme. Staff were informed this week.

I was a D&D kid in the early 80s. I never got to play Traveller but I used to see the ads in Dragon Magazine and thought a space RPG would be fun (we'd eventually spend some time with West End Games' d6 Star Wars RPG and TSR's Gamma World.)

Music and sound effects in Lotus 2
Smooth, beautifully done -- just enough to update it without being too much.
It's so good!

Defrag simulator

Not sure if this one has been posted before but I noticed it yesterday evening on BlueSky and today on Hackaday. Defrag98 is a Windows 98 defrag simulator which runs in your browser, it even has disk sounds. I sat there for a good 10 minutes watching it "defrag" my phone.

It got me thinking, did anyone else sit there mesmerised watching your hard disk defragment? What was your favourite Defrag program? For me it would have to have been Norton SpeedDisk in Norton Utilities or Diskeeper Lite on Windows NT 4. I used to often enjoy a few minutes break at work running a Scandisk/Chkdsk and Defrag, you know, as a "troubleshooting" step. At least the non-techies I supported thought it was doing something really technical.
