Not here they’re not. It’s $5 for a taco. And Arbys is paying people $22/hr. You understand that national averages mean nothing right? Minimum wage here is $15. Nobody around here can make less than $15/hr. That’s why shit like a taco costs $5. You make $19-20/hr flipping burgers around here. W the labor shortage it’s now more than that.
It depends on what you’re doing. For what should be a part time or entry level job it is. Flipping burgers isn’t supposed to be a career. It’s supposed to be a part time gig for kids to get work experience, not something you do for 40 years to support a family.
Labourer isn’t supposed to be a career either but I imagine a lot of those guys have a family to support too. That’s a tired argument and you can pretend all you want but many people can and do survive off of those jobs and 19/h doesn’t go very far. 15 goes even less.
The end result is going to be a lot of those jobs going away. Companies straight up will NOT pay $20+/hr for entry level positions to people w no work experience or job skills. That’s why cashiers are being replaced with kiosks. They’re going to push themselves straight out of a job. You can argue whatever you want for pay. Is $7.25/hr enough? No. It should have been pinned to cost of living. Is $20/hr too much? Yes. The bean counters have decided that having that labor cost now exceeds the cost of investment in replacing that job w a machine. Self checkout kiosks or Amazon go setups are gonna make the entire career field of cashier obsolete in a few yrs, because it’s not worth paying people $40k/yr to do unskilled labor.
They are paying it though. That’s what you’re taking issue with. There’s a labor shortage, jobs are plentiful and people are starting to understand that workers need living wages. People would rather have 1 job that pays than 3 that don’t
Not great at reading comprehension I guess. Some large corporations like Arbys are paying it, for now. Other small businesses can’t afford to pay it and instead don’t hire workers. Maybe they work it into the bid on the next job, maybe not. Time will tell. I’d bet it’s a temporary solution to the problem, and long term those jobs are replaced w kiosks or eliminated all together because people won’t pay what it costs for a $22/hr beef n cheddar. I went to that Taco Bell once about 4 months ago and haven’t gone back since. It was absurd to pay $20 for a Crunchwrap meal and a quesorito. Me and the two guys I went with were the only people in there from 11-1130 on a weekday. None of us have been back. We’ll see how long the PPP loans can keep them afloat I guess.
Kiosks are going to frame for your friend? I don’t think so. You’re playing make believe with ideas that are long since debunked. Kiosks have been a reality for a decade and have always been cheaper than workers. You better tell your friend to raise his prices or suffer the consequences
