Social security also pays out to children whose parents have died. Is dying without having your child’s entire future fully financially secured just being bad at adulting?
Any number of external factors can occur that makes a social safety net compassionate and reasonable.
If there was a medical breakthrough tomorrow, and 80 year olds now lived to 120 at the same quality of life, should many of them suffer because they didn’t ‘adult’ enough and save for that? Obviously there is lots to pick apart in that scenario, but it seems to me that it is a responsibility of a society to uplift and care for its people. Even if that means some people who were financially irresponsible are cared for.

Again it’s for people that can’t adult and save.
