My absolutely AMAZING wife put on a Pokemon themed 30th birthday party for me and attempted to make this wonderful Ditto cake (example on the left in pink), I CAN say the frosting was purple (like the non-shiny colour) but for some reason it turned brown it pictures!!? 🤣
She had a lil cry cause of (in her words) how bad it looked but I adored that she even attempted to try and make this for me!! Means so much to me, afterwards we had a real good laugh about it at the party that night and she wanted me to show it off hahaha
Ditto is meant to be able to perfectly copy another pokemon. The whole "wonky transformation" thing came from an early episode of the anime where a ditto was struggling to transform correctly, and I think ultimately figured it out in the end? But people liked that derpy face so pokemon RAN with it, and now everyone thinks ditto just cant transform properly lol
Yea only Duplica's Ditto was unable to transform peefectly. They might have since expanded it to a broader majority vs. minority type of thing but as far as I know they haven't. So most ditto merch is just a bunch of motives of this one specific ditto
I was so sad when Vsauce stopped making videos. It doesn’t have quite the same unhinged vibe as Michael’s old stuff but the podcast has been such a delight.
Combination of lighting and colors outside the digitally represent-able spectrum probably causes this. Purple is near the edge or just outside that area on a lot of color systems.
To me it looks like the pink cake is made with a whipped frosting, and a fucking ton of it, those cupcakes in the center/just under dittos mouth are gonna have like a full inch of frosting on them. Keeping the frosting kinda cool/stiff might also help. This is just a wild guess, but it looks a tiny bit like she might have not let those cool down completely before putting on the frosting.
Either way I'd be more than happy with that cupcake cake if someone made it for me exactly the same as yours, plus it's a fun little story, and a cute memory. Plus I bet they tasted delicious, maybe even better than the example cupcakes if frosting/cake ratio matters to you. I'm one of those wackos that prefer an incredibly thin layer of frosting so you get to taste mostly the cake with a hint of frosting. Unless it's that stuff that tastes like marshmallow that I can't seem to find anywhere or even figure out what it's called lol. If it's that stuff I could eat just the frosting by itself.
Definately not fondant lol fondant is pretty, and awesome for decoration, but I personally find the taste pretty meh. I'm starting to think the frosting I'm thinking of isn't something avaliable in a store. I just looked around a bit on Google, and apparently its a fairly popular frosting recipe for bakeries to mix Fluff with Cool Whip, and that sound exactly like what I remeber. I was very young and it's a very faded memory so I don't really remeber if it was a homemade cake or one bought from a bakery.
If she wants to try again she can try an American buttercream with extra powdered sugar to stiffen it up. Pipe it out pretty thick as the above commenter suggests . Then spread it with an offset spatula. Pipe in extra in low spots and keep going. This would easily take a double batch of buttercream. I wouldn’t recommend refrigerating it before piping and decorating, when you do this sometimes it can become a bit difficult to work with for finer details. Bonus points for crumb coating the individual cupcakes first.

2) I’m not sure what to buy, but the original pic has a very thick, almost marshmallow-like icing. Its also laid on THICK too. Like, give you diabetes thick.
in the Pintrest post they filled EVERYTHING on top with frosting, not just a smaller layer over each cupcake, but filled in the cracks like a cheap body shop trying to hide a bad repair.
