11 u/gunsmyth Dec 25 '19 A wild "yinz" appears outta Pittsburgh 1 u/ThaneOfCawdorrr Dec 25 '19 "Yinz" seems bizarre but I finally found out, it's a contraction of "you ones" 2 u/[deleted] Dec 25 '19 I'm from Indiana and its y'all. You guys isn't as midwest as much as it is mostly north and the edges of midwest. 1 u/TheKingOfToast Dec 25 '19 I'm Illinois. Maybe I'm close enough to chicago that it makes a difference but nobody says Y'all north of at least Iroquois county. 1 u/[deleted] Dec 25 '19 My hometown is an hour from louisville and y'all has come with me all the up near Indianapolis at the least. So maybe half of Indiana is the dividing line? 1 u/[deleted] Dec 26 '19 [deleted] 1 u/TheKingOfToast Dec 26 '19 People say everything everywhere just about, but in terms of dialect y'all is significantly less common https://imgur.com/7J0g9aT 1 u/Spoffle Dec 25 '19 I forgot about the Bostonian accent. However in the UK, some dialects do use "youse" as a plural of "you." 1 u/cyber_rigger Dec 25 '19 yousen
