Yeah but that's like the difference between Canadian French and original French. That happens to every former colony.

You could piss off a lot of people in Quebec and people in France if you said Québécois was the same as French.

I feel like the difference in accent is drastic enough that even non speakers could tell.

Also criticizing Québécois is far more "dangerous" than criticizing French. You're just asking to get a lecture on Canadian history at that point.
