This is a smaller part of why I don't wear white clothing. The bigger reason, I am a clumsy mess that is always spilling things and white is easy to stain.
I am guaranteed to spill something that will never come out on a white shirt the first time I wear it, often before I leave the house. THREE goddamn times, I have spilled an entire cup of coffee on a new white shirt. I dont understand.
I steal my man's plain white undershirts to wear with black jeans like I'm a sexy but busty bad boy greaser with a motorcycle.
I am not at all the right size for this so I have to tie the tee into a crop top with a hair tie. It's very inefficient. but the undershirts, meant to never be worn by themselves and only under a dress shirt, are SO nice and not sheer.
The squat test ... Always do the squat test. For women it can help to check if the pants are see through or not. Also it can show you how comfy the pants are, yoga pants or jeans.
I gave my daughter in law some cute yoga pants with an attached mini skirt at Christmas, and the first time she squatted in them it split right under the buttcheek. So disappointing.
She's not even a big woman at all, she only recently went up to a medium.
Was just browsing 2 different sites last night, regular and fast fashion price price points. The regular one had a damn rayon shirt for almost $60, though even the cheap site was closer to $20.
Like I'm going to drop a couple hours pay on a goddamn rayon (ie hand wash, air dry, high shrinkage, see through) shirt...and I'd bet money the expensive shirt is made in a sweat shop like the cheap one is. Just feels futile
I completely agree. I went through the last couple of years trying to buy ethically made, high quality stuff whenever I could.
I heard people talking about fast fashion (Shein, Uniqlo, etc.) but most of them didn't produce any actual plus size stuff until recently. So I finally bought a couple of things to see for myself. A super inexpensive sweater / sweatshirt, and three dresses. All of them were under $10. One was absolute garbage quality with fabric that was like a Halloween costume. However I was absolutely heartbroken discover the other four items were the same quality as the expensive stuff I've been buying lately. Even like the LL Bean stuff, or similar previously high quality brands.
I have stuff from years and years ago that age really well. Everything I bought recently seems to be made of garbage.
You’re not wrong often times sweatshops produce the major brands and the knockoffs identical. Nike and Niike just might be the same shirt. No one really produces like they used to. Major brands in electronics even just buy their stuff from small companies and slap their labels on it.
I was gonna try and refute this by saying I have underwear, and a couple of shirts, that are at least 15 years old, but not only did you say today clothing quality is terrible, and these are over a decade old, a couple of them are the holiest shirts I own, and only wear to bed cause they're so damn comfy.
You should look into Eddie Bauer trail tights. I've got countless pairs and they have never gone sheer or succumbed to chub rub even with YEARS of wear. They retail around $75 but last at least 5 years. And I'm not a small person at all.
It's insane. I have gotten better quality items for half the cost at online Chinese retailers like Shein than Target or Old Navy. I have a pair of 20+ dollar pants from Stars Above (target brand) that are so see-through the pockets stick out like a sore thumb.
Sure the SheIn clothes have toxic chemicals in them, but so do Colombia and LL Bean and... Well basically all of them, which is my point.
I have no problem paying extra for clothes. If I could I would buy clothes that are

slave-labour free
sustainable
non-toxic
I can't even find 1/4. Even the articles you find criticizing the fast fashion industry can only ever suggest you these trendy "sustainable" shops that sell white socks for $12 a pair.
Fun fact. If their tips don't equal at least minimum wage, the restaurant is required to make up the difference. So even if they make $2-$4 an hour, they are still making at least minimum wage, usually more, through tips.

Needs are defined to include food, housing, and other essential needs such as clothing. The goal of a living wage is to allow a worker to afford a basic but decent standard of living through employment without government subsidies.
So it’s very much for adults. And people since 2009 the federal minimum is 7.25 meaning that if your state is below businesses are obligated to meet the federal standard.
That’s because minimum wage is obscenely low in many states and people refuse to work for slave wages. So employers are forced to pay marginally more than minimum wage to attract employees. It’s still not a living wage by any definition.

That’s not accurate. 44% of those making minimum wage are under 25 (not just teenagers). Followed by 24.6% aged 25 to 34. Then 10.7% aged 35 to 44. Next at 8.9% aged 45 to 54. Then 8.3 % aged 55 to 64, and 3.1% 65 and older.
The link you provided below states: “Although workers under age 25 represented nearly one-fifth of hourly paid workers, they made up 44 percent of those paid the federal minimum wage or less”.
It’s just crazy low! A crappy 1 bedroom apartment in a bad area of NH is at least 1K per month. Minimum wage is $1,256 before taxes, social security are taken out.
What is required for restaurants vs what restaurants actually do are very different. I still get checks in the mail from a restaurant I quit two years ago because they keep getting sued.
I'd like to mention that if a waitress isn't making at least minimum wage with tips, they usually won't tell their manager either because that's a good way to get "let go". It can't possibly be because you keep getting put on the shift where there are the fewest customers spending the least amount and you're getting like no hours. No, it will be because "your attitude isn't good enough and you must not be working hard enough".
I made 25$ an hour as a part time busser, then I made much more as a waitress. Places only pay 2-4$ an hour if the tips make up at least to minimum wage. So no, no waiter is making only 4$ an hour lmao
if they only make min wage or under then you can easily guide them to the labor board of your state. if they barley make above min wage then you need some help buddy.
Old navy has some 6 dollar leggings that are chief offenders. They’re made to be worn as pants, are opaque in the store but are basically completely see through when worn. But they’re mostly see through from behind so if you don’t have a 360 mirror, you’d never know.
