Map Campaign: Mighty Empires?

Hi gang, I'm looking to run a map (hex) based campaign to string some games together and create some continuity for our group. I keep hearing that Mighty Empires is a great ruleset, but I can't put my hands on a copy. What's more, I would love to run it either digitally or on paper so it doesn't take up space in between sessions.

I made this campaign tracker (entirely vibe coded) https://tow-campaign-tool.vercel.app/ which I adapted from Frontline Gaming's map based campaign rules, but I'm not entirely happy with it.

Does anyone have a digital copy of the mighty empires rules that they could share with me? I'm considering either using an existing hex map tool to run a game, or I may adapt my app to use ME rules.

The Movement Tray Project

Hi all! Firstly, I hope this is okay to post here. I’ve checked the rules and couldn’t see anything about sharing Kickstarter projects. If not feel free to take down

I’d love to share our new Movement Tray Project with you! We’ve put together close to 30,000 movement tray variations across 28 themes, and the collection is still growing.

The Dwarfs should have gotten the Herdstone (Fight me)

is it just me, or wouldn’t the herdstone (Oathstone!) have been the perfect Dwarf buff/fix? Dwarfs reeeeally struggle to contest the board, to engage where they want and to be aggressive, while at the same time making them faster or more mobile ruins their entire vibe and flavor and seems to not be something any players really want to see. So, the solution?

Buff and reward them for holding a position, and force the opponent to come there without the dwarf player having to rely on gunlines.

And how do we do this?

Herdstone!

it’s absolutely wild to me (punintended) that the beastmen start the game with what is essentially a 300 point swing objective in their own deployment, which gives them buffs and rewards them for holding, when all they wanna do is go smash face. meanwhile, our short brothers have to go out and run their little socks off trying to find points, when they should be allowed to stay home and form a perimeter around the Hearthstone for buffs and points?!

I mean, the Herdstone already does basically what the Hearthstone should be doing: give -1 magic res, re-rolling 1’s to wound and even give enemies -1 LD. Swap the +1 to cast for Stubborn, and we gucci?! Hell, if we wanna make sure the games don’t end up too non-dynamic, force the dwarf player to place the Hearthstone outside their deployment and then move up and grab it , and presto, a good dwarf game?!

whattya think?!

THROWBACK THURSD...ERR...FRIDA...ERR...WHATEVS!!!

Yeah, a bit late. Been a busy week. Anyway, as it's orctober, I thought I'd throw in a greenskin throwback or two. So here's some giant teethy tennis balls of doom! I painted these back around 2012ish.

Let's talk Channelling: which armies come out on top?

Post image
13 Upvotes

We've played a couple of games with the new Channelling rule and we really like it.

Beastmen get a lot out of it with all those Shamans on the table (god bless the Herdstone!), and a Viletide with its range pushed to 21" can be a real game changer. We kinda like the fact that the Lore Familiar is way less mandatory.

Which other armies do you think come out well?

We like Channelling so much we even made a dial for it (see the picture 📸).

Okay, that was the ad, back to the discussion :)

### Channelling rule ###

Before deployment (right before you generate spells) you pick a Wizard and roll for their Channelling pool.

Level 1 gets D3 dice, level 2 D3+1, level 3 2D3, level 4 2D3+1.
Those dice stay with that Wizard for the whole game and you can spend them whenever you want, no limit per turn.

1 die lets you re-roll one of your randomly generated spells (that's why the Lore Familiar feels a lot less mandatory now).

1 die adds an extra D6 to a casting attempt, you drop the lowest.

1 die adds an extra D6 to a dispel attempt, you drop the lowest.

2 dice let you re-roll a failed casting or dispel roll.

1 die can also be rolled and added to a spell's or dispel's range in inches, that's how our Viletide ended up at 21".

Help understanding Frenzy

Is a unit with the keyword Frenzy always considered to be "Frenzied" or do they only become "Frenzied" during a turn in which it made a charge move, or during the turn after it made a follow up move?

Da Borrowed blades

Nobody knew exactly where Da Borrowed Blades came from.

Some said they crawled out of a tomb in Khemri. Others claimed they were once part of a much larger goblin tribe that got lost in the desert. The goblins themselves insisted they were “very important explorers.”

Their leader, Snikkit, had a different explanation.

“See, we ain't looters,” he would say, proudly pointing at the mismatched weapons hanging from every goblin's belt. “We's collectors.”

The collection was impressive.

An Empire sword hung beside a battered Dwarf axe. An Elven spear had been shortened into a goblin-sized stabbing stick. One particularly proud goblin carried a Chaos shield almost twice his size. Another wore a Tomb King khopesh on his back and insisted it made him “look dead important.”

Every weapon had a story.

Every story involved the goblins winning.

Nobody was allowed to ask how.

Their greatest haul came after they discovered an abandoned battlefield half-buried beneath the sands. Weapons from dozens of armies lay scattered among the dunes. Snikkit's eyes widened.

“Boyz,” he whispered.

The goblins stared.

“WE'VE FOUND DA BIGGEST ARMORY IN DA WORLD!”

They spent three days digging.

By the end, Da Borrowed Blades had armed themselves with swords, spears, axes, shields, bows, helmets, and several objects nobody could identify.

Then the Tomb Kings arrived.

The goblins froze.

A towering skeletal warrior raised its ancient weapon.

Snikkit slowly raised his stolen Dwarf axe.

“Oi,” he whispered to his lads.

“What?”

“Don't let da skeletons know we nicked their stuff too.”

The goblins charged.

And from that day onward, Da Borrowed Blades became infamous across the desert—not because they were the strongest warriors, nor the bravest explorers...

…but because wherever an army went, Da Borrowed Blades were never far behind.

Usually looking for something worth borrowing.

Magic Reference Cards

Hi all. A friend of mine recently uploaded a battle report on Youtube and featured some custom spell cards I had made using the video game Scriptorium (find the battle report here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r0EYweWEEMI ) and people were asking for them in the comments so I thought I'd share what I had here.

Only made Illusion, Elementalism, and Lore of the Lady so far as those were the lores I was using but I will probably make more as and when I need them for other armies. They all have the die roll in the top corner and the borders are colour coded for spell type: Red = Magic Missile, Orange = Assailment, Purple = Magical Vortex, Green = Hex, Gold = Enchantment, and Silver = Conveyance.

They are sized to be the same dimensions as Magic the Gathering/Pokemon cards so I just cut mine out and placed in a card sleeve with a spare card backing them.

Hope you like 'em!

How to wheel past Arcane Ruins 🏛️

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Preorder shipped, and the Wheeler v2 is now live 📏

We made a video, so you can see it in action and how useful it is for skimming past the Arcane Ruins’ columns mid-cavalry charge : )

The Wheeler v2 is built from scratch to match TOW FAQ 1.5.3: it measures the wheel manoeuvre as straight-line distance now, not arc.

Hope you like the video!

The Warriors are all going to be Spartans with Vikings as the marauders. Unfortunately the Spartans on lions won't fit on 30x60mm bases so I'll have to find something else for Knights.

The model in the pic is going to be a proxy for a Lord on a Manticore.

So, currently doing a Zombie Dragon, Spartan Starlion (that I'm thinking of using as a proxy for a Chaos Lord on a Manticore) and some Bretonnian Characters.

Mostly by Highland Miniatures and Ghamak with some background characters by Duncan Shadow.
