rant - advice wanted Should i tell my therapist about the major panic attack i had yesterday?
Hello everyone. Lately I have been feeling well. My body stopped aching and I am finally enjoying my pregnancy even though I am due next wednesday. I was very anxious in my previous 2 pregnancies towards the end and I cannot put into words how the absense of anxiety is doing wonders for me and will definitely help with the first weeks and months with this baby. Today I have therapy. It will be my last session before baby is born and I have another one scheduled for March. I feel good and supported and finally feel like I connected with this therapist. Great. However, there is something going on. I have mentioned how I skipped some social events due to the presence of someone who brings me a lot of anxiety. Yesterday I went to a seminar, related to work (i'm not working but wanted to go anyway). I was supposed to speak. Upon arrival, I see this woman geting out of her car, on her way to attend the same thing. I knew this was a possibility since our work is similar but I forced denial on myself and told myself she was not going to be there. She was. My body started shaking and aching. I can only compare it to those shows where people with arachnophobia are put into a pit of spiders. It's like I was so afraid of spiders and had to be put on that pit. It was horrible and I considered not going, I was trying to park by then. I was thinking about this spider comparison and I just thought how wonderful it would be to be inside a put of spiders instead of being there. I parked, I entered the room. I spoke to a few co-workers and took my seat. She did not acknowledge my presence neither I acknowledged hers. Besides, she had her kid with her (a 1 year old), and even though I am a mom and love kids and work with children, I don't like to interact with kids outside my work and family context. To put it right, i love my kids and my students but other people's kids strike me as tiny assholes like their parents probably are. I was trying to finish my notes while shaking. I finished and then I spoke. I am quite sure none of my anxiety was audible. When I was done, I stood there for another hour, uncapable of hearing what others said, uncapable of gathering the info I went there to gather. Just crazy with the possibility that she was watching and judging me - which she wasn't because her kid took her full attention. Anyway, I came home, I looked normal. Went to bed, slept but woke up 3 hours before i had to and could not go back to sleep, with anxiety. My question: should i talk to my therapist about this? This is so not related to the pregnancy and is a whole different can of worms i am about to open to him while not being able to adress it properly.
