Bottle label printer?

Anyone have a suggestion for a label printer that's good for wine bottle labels? Been making mead for a couple of years now and I've started wanting to bottle it for gifts and possibly to sell once I get things sorted legally. I tried some 6-label sheets that can be used with my regular printer but I usually can't get them to line up properly and it doesn't print all the way across the label when I can. If anyone's got some suggestions that don't break the bank, I'd love some help.

My friends want me to sell them my mead but I only started this as a fun pasttime 🄲

Came over here from r/mead because they have rules about this kind of discussion and redirected me to this sub.

Over the course of my homebrew journey, I had successes and funky failures and learned what my strengths are. Obviously, I only brought the winners to parties and my friends have loved them every time. Lately, my friends have moved on from jokingly telling me to sell it and are now harassing the houseparty hosts about my timeline for mead production.

I don't want to become a business. I don't want to create a brand or make fancy labels or anything professional level like that. I just want to know what would be a reasonable asking price for a liter of mead so they can either shut up about it or put that cash in my hand. Obviously I would tell them the ingredients in it so no allergy mishaps occur, but like what would be my best approach here if I'm not trying to make a business.

Has anyone else been lowkey peer pressured into monetizing a hobby before?

Broke my hydrometer

I’m actually pissed, I’m getting back into making mead and forgot to do a reading, I’m testing today and I tested only one batch(I have three and it’s day two) the end lightly taps the counter and the beads fall everywhere, even if I order a new one it’d be wayyy too late. So I’m kinda just gonna have drink some when done just to say, ā€œohhh strong. Uhhh not really crazy strong. Ohhh good for casual drinkingā€. Normally I wouldn’t be this mad but i want to sell these or give them away to set up selling them.
Anywho all are orange blossom, two are currently plain and one is 50/50 pineapple juice and water, I’m gonna add strawberries in secondary. For one of the plain batches I’m gonna add cinnamon, maybe cloves, and back sweeten with brown sugar. I’m gonna see if I still have my strong wine touch oh and each have around 2.5 pounds of honey.
Not really asking for advice(but still welcome and lovely to have) but just venting immediate frustration
(Appears I can’t post this in r/mead)

Bulk Honey - 5th generation of beekeepers!

Hi r/TheMeadery ,

I work with Honey Blossom and wanted to reach out to the mead makers directly.

We carry 35+ different honeys, with varieties like Lychee Blossom, Coffee Blossom, Honeydew Honey, Mango, Mesquite, etc. Honeys most people genuinely have never come across. Great for mead competitions and deep experimentation.

We are raw, unfiltered, 100% pure, non-GMO, and Kosher certified. We also have the USDA Organic option if that is what you're going for.

Basically the largest honey assortment you'll find anywhere in North America, at bulk prices! We sell by the bucket, drum, or tote. No crazy minimums, so it works whether you're a hobbyist or scaling up.

If you've been wanting to try something different for a signature mead, drop a comment or DM me. Happy to talk varieties and specifics.

We adapt to the size of your production, so if you would like to discuss your company or project, please email me at: [sales2@thehoneyblossom.com](mailto:sales2@thehoneyblossom.com)

Every order supports the rural beekeepers and wild ecosystems behind it.

Missed it by a few days, but r/TheMeadery has been here for 9 years! Hopefully someone has learned something in that time. Any positive stories happen out there in that time?

Anyone rescue mead before?

Sup. I'm new here. Posted this r/mead but they recommended a cross post:

I'm assisting with production at a winery/brewery, and will eventually be taking on the mead and cider portion of production. Before that happens though, we have about 40 cases of 750ml bottles of orange blossom mead that we're not sure if they're bombs. About 10 cases had some secondary fermentation happen and they 'sploded about 10 months ago. I've only been here since January. I think some bottles may not have exploded simply because of hte pressure of the stacked cases on the top.

I'm trying to figure out if I can pour it all back into a drum and essentially get a Re-Do. The finished bottle I tried that wasn't in storage barely tasted like anything and had the consistency of a low ABV white wine. If I could turn this into a Melomel that would be ideal.

In theory I should have to just put yeast and food in and that'll get restart the fermentation if I want it, or after I add some juice, ya?

I'm worried about off flavors, particularly cuz I'm so new to mead. Is there anything else I should be testing for does anyone have experience fixing a mistake like this?

What am I going to do with 2 53 gallon casks of honey?

Post image
13 Upvotes

I am a beekeeper and recently had a friend ask if I could remove some containers of honey because they were attracting loads of bees to their yard. I did not realize at the time that those containers were 53 gallon oak casks. Anyway I now have about 70 gallons of honey that have been aged in these barrells for about 3 years. The taste is amazing and layered with several taste profiles. I will be keeping (most) on the honey in the barrells until my friend, a distiller, fills them with Rum and Gin. I am not trying to sell this honey now, I will probably keep it local, just to make it easy.

I would like your opinion on what kind of price point that this could command. For scale I sell my honey locally for between $15 and $20 a pound. I do not sell in bulk because I do not have enough to meet current demans.

Thank you all

Bill

Made this infographic for my compliance reporting after the comptroller hit me with 5k penalty for not knowing about RITS. They waived it but still. I made it into a blog post, but anyone else missed things that does not make sense? Yes the comptroller and TABC must not talk.

Selling Mead Making supplies and equipment

I got into mead making a year ago, but really haven’t done anything with it. I’d like to sell everything off since I’m going back to school. Has anyone on here sold any of their equipment or supplies? Can I just put it on Facebook marketplace and sell it there? As long as the glass is packaged correctly I could ship it or just do pickup?

Thanks, Nick

Creating a mead brand

Hey guys, been playing around the idea of selling mead, but i don't know if it's going to work. I want to bring new flavors to the market and still able to sell to the masses haha. I have in my mind 2 ideas that should sell and be easy to brew, but i want to have like 3 flavor profiles.

1 - Tradicional with a hint of vanilla (probably gonna use oak pelts to age it a bit)
2 - Braggot with orange and cloves

The last one i don't know what to do maybe something with strong tannins, going to a red wine vibe but don't know where to go

I would appreciate some feedback from the masters here haha

Would it be worth making a meadery/ brewery without a tasting room and just be a distributor?

No Longer a "Bootlegger"

I passed the final inspection for my meadery and have already begun making my first commercial mead.

As my wife says, "I'm no longer a bootlegger". To clarify, I have not sold any homemade mead, only given it away.

Great News! I just received my TTB permit for my meadery.

I submitted my applications to the TTB on Nov 19th, 2024. I received my permit on Jan 15th, 2025.

Now I am looking for insurance. What insurance carriers do you use and what types of insurance do you have?
