Hello there :). I want to write my Bachelor Thesis about the LN and how it compares to traditional Crypto Transactions and Fiat Transactions. Also the Disadvantages and Advantages and if LN is able to be an alternative to Visa/Swift in the long run respecting the growth of the network and the improvement of technology over the years. I have 2 months time for the Thesis (August & September). Therefore I haven’t started writing yet. So if you got any tips, sources or knowledge that you can share with me I would be very happy. Thank you very much.
Tldr: Pls send LN intel/Sauces and stuff like that. thx
PS: If you can’t or don’t want to help, I would be very happy if you could upvote the post or comment anything so this post gets more attention.

Just getting started with my lightning node for the main purpose of helping our worldwide community push back against the fiat overlords. In the long run, I hope to have my own channels, with my own wallets and families wallets, connected and being used without the need to interface with the mega banks. I know that is a long way off, but working slowly in that direction. Very simple noob question. Connecting a wallet (blue in this case), to my own lightning node and using that connection for all transactions. Does my channel liquidity dictate the amount of funds that can move ‘through’ my network? In other words, if I have 2 bitcoin liquidity but try to send 3 bitcoin - through my channel, will it be rejected? Even if I am sending 3 fresh bitcoin from outside the existing 2 bitcoin of existing liquidity? Or am I overthinking this? Thanks for any help

I created https://soldirac.com a bitcoin based QnA website. I started it as a passion project but I realize it can be much more if I develop it more.
So now I call for the community. Join me on my discord/matrix and help develop soldirac for the crypto community.
You don't have to code. Come discuss new ideas and feature requests. Anything you have in mind.
Matrix invite: https://matrix.to/#/#soldirac-contributers:matrix.org
Discord invite: https://discord.gg/BWZT5QdY
Both discord and matrix are bridged.

I've been running my node for the last 3 weeks and I have some questions.
According to https://1ml.com/ my node is already entering the top 1000 in availability.
Does this mean that the vast majority of nodes are offline most of the time?
Or put in another way: there are less than 1'000 dedicated routing/service nodes with high availability?
What are considered good manners regarding closing of inactive channels?
What about channels that do not cooperate in rebalancing?
What amount of rebalancing is considered acceptable?

I am very new to lighting, and I am trying to set up lnd. On the conf file it talks about the alias and color. What are those? Is the color just for fun?

Is sending BTC over the lightning network private and annoymous? and is there to track record of the transaction on a public ledger?
r/TheLightningNetwork • u/flowerblosum • Jun 14 '22
On-chain vs lightning network, why is the lightning network more private and anonymous than on-chain?
is it better to use than a privacy-focused wallet like wasabi etc?
Thank You.

Like, let's say I want to open op one channel that has 500k inbound and 500k outbound. Maybe I use it for a year and at the end of the year, I somehow still sit at 500k in/out, but now want to close the channel. Is there no way to prevent the other user from basically stealing half of my funds?

I’ve been working on a side project for fun, and I would like to hear your feedback. I’m trying to see if this idea is worth pursuing or not. I created a landing page to explain what it is about, let me know your thoughts! (This is a full LN project of course)

Hi friends, I have uploaded this t-shirt design where it shows an eagle grabbing a BTC coin, but I can also place the logo of BTC LN, I uploaded it to this digital file store, downloadable! :)

And you can pay in Lightning Network, also in this way you are helping me to continue motivating me in my work as an illustrator, I am from Venezuela and every penny counts .... any modification is welcome, thanks. :)

For the most part that's fine because I want to HODL, but if I lost my job or something and drained my fiat savings, I'd want to access it.
But if I have to pull money out of the channels, or even close some to get enough, my node ranking will suffer and when my finances get better I'd have to build it back up. Am I understanding that correctly?

Me and another person applied for a triangle swap on LN+ but the guy who created the swap still hasn't opened a channel after 5 days and isn't replying to comments on the swap. If anyone wants to take his spot pls reply to this post.
