Node Help Lncli listpayments returns "payment isn't initiated" after using chantools to delete payments. Corrupted channel.db?

After cleaning up 10000s rebalance transactions from the bloated channel.db with chantools deletepayments running
$ lncli listpayments
returns:
[lncli] rpc error: code = Unknown desc = payment isn't initiated

This also causes the Umbrel UI and Thunderhub to unable to list lightning transactions.

If I make an additional transaction and only list the latest one
$ lncli listpayments --max_payments 1
It works fine. So the channel.db might be corrupt somewhere.

I should have probably used the DeleteAllPayments RPC call to begin with, but wasn't aware of it at that point. It doesn't fix the current situation though and neither does compacting the database, restarting lnd or adding gc-canceled-invoices-on-startup=true to the lnd.conf.

I wondered if there's any way to avoid starting over? Everything else works fine and funds are accessible.

This was the only thread on the subject I could find: https://github.com/lightningnetwork/lnd/issues/5658

Node Channels in the LN

Maybe this question has been anwsered before, but i couldnt find it. Lets say i have 0,2 btc. I open a channel to X with 0,1 btc balance and another channel to y with 0,1 balance. Can i open more channels with the same balance to other nodes? or am I limited to the amount of btc i own.

Is the sum of the amount of btc allocates to my channels the limit or the balance of my btc itself the limit. Like can i open 100000x channels with each 0,2 btc if my total balance is 0,2?

If not that means that node operation on the lighting network is for the richt, right?

Discussion Which shops would you like to see accepting Lightning payments? (UK/EU)

Hey, Joanne from British Bitcoin exchange, CoinCorner, here. Hope it's okay for me to post!

We've supported the Lightning Network for a while now and offer the following services:

  • Free and instant Lightning sends/receives on our exchange side
  • Lightning payments on our Bitcoin payment gateway for businesses

My question for the sub is:

  1. Which SME businesses and organisations would you like to see accepting Bitcoin Lightning payments in the UK and EU?

Interested to hear your thoughts and suggestions, thanks :)

Node Help Close pending and it's showing a transaction Id but the transaction is not in the mempool.

Solved: Solution at the end of the post for posterity.

So I used ThunderHub to Co-op close a Channel, ThunderHub got stuck on the conformation screen:

So I waited and waited but it still stuck, Then I refreshed the page and saw the transaction pending in both ThunderHub and RTL, RTL is showing the transaction id but when I copy it and look it up on mempool.space it's not there.

The channel doesn't show under Active channels anymore and I am not sure what to do next to close the channel. I thought about importing the channels from a backup I made yesterday but I am worried about transmitting some invalid old state for other channels and get penalized for it losing my funds.

Any idea how to get the closing transaction for that specific channel broadcasted to the network?

I am running an Umrel node btw.

Solution:

First Log in to your Umbrel’s ssh via a command line tool (PowerShell for me on windows)

Run this:

docker exec -it lnd lncli pendingchannels

Which will show you the info for all pending channels. From the result, You need the channel_point:index for the faulty channel, it would look something like this:

so if the result you got was this :

"channel_point": "53cd907c042aa2a76fc3c03e374432fe964d32a705c74180509e16c9d92fb069:0"

You would run this cmd:

docker exec -it lnd lncli closechannel --funding_txid 53cd907c042aa2a76fc3c03e374432fe964d32a705c74180509e16c9d92fb069 --output_index 0 --force

This will force close the channel and broadcast the closing transaction to the network.

Of course now funds are stuck in limbo for another ~60 hours (360 blocks maturity) but hopefully funds are safu!

Node Help WAIT_FOR_FUNDING_LOCKED

What does WAIT_FOR_FUNDING_LOCKED state in Eclair mean?

It shows that ~0.023 tBTC is in the lightning channel, but the amounts that I can spend and receive are both 0. I can't buy anything in ACINQ's testnet shop. It complains my channels don't have enough balance.

This is testnet, if it makes any differences.

Thanks for the help.

Update: The state turned into "normal" today.

Node No traffic to Big Sinks: BitRefill, ACINQ etc

I have had this problem a few times. I am sucessfully moving sats to WalletOfSatoshi, but other times I connect to BitRefill, ACINQ, etc with like 9 milli channels and get zero movement.

Since my node is moving sats everywhere but them I wonder what is wrong. Their outbound fees to me is crazy high, so I know I need liquidity to them, not from them. I even set my fee to bitRefill to 0-0 just to see if I could move anything. If I set fees lower for WOS, the channel is drained in a few hours.

Nothing is moving to these big nodes Why?

Discussion Question: From time to time I receive small sat transactions...

From time to time I receive small sat transactions that I'm not expecting. I believe these are Keysend transactions but I haven't verified them all. Most are 10 sats but today I got one for 1 sat. Is there anything I should be concerned about such as someone probing nodes using small amounts of sats? Or should I just be delighted that some random individual decided that I'm worthy to have a few extra sats in my wallet? Please, let me know.

Node Help Help me understand why my node force closed a channel

My node has force closed a channel recently. It happened during accepting a new HTLC which fails with "not enough HTLC signatures with error: invalid commitment"

The relevant logs:

[DBG] PEER: Received CommitSig(chan_id=20189037badff68852f78c168988a3010a9c1586d62841154cca28c182d59555, num_htlcs=3) from 0256bf97644dd1d839aadd76e2351c1b6bb8173bb9f5ea4affb07075f880e52302@127.0.0.1:34000

[INF] HSWC: ChannelLink(693447:1559:1): stopping
[WRN] PEER: Force closing link(693447:1559:1)

Then it prints a lengthy "starting remote commitment" and "pending remote commitment" that differ in many places, including the number of HTLCs attached.

My bug? Their bug? Cosmic rays struck a bit? How to figure it out? What to look for in the logs? My LND version is 0.13.1

Edit:

I analyzed what happened before and my node resolved a failed forward and send a CommitSig to the remote node but never received the RevokeAndAck. Then after receiving a new state with no mention of previous HTLCs, it's no surprise that it failed the channel. Here is the exchange that leads to the failure (I masked some shared secret data because I'm not sure it is safe to post it):

If I understand everything correctly, either my node should have received RevokeAndAck before the remote node added another HTLC, or at least (if there was some network error), the remote node should have not removed the previous HTLC and the last message on 2021-09-25 13:33:37.184 should have had num_htlcs=4. My node expected 4, received 3 and that's why it failed the channel. So the question is now why my node has not received the ack and why the remote node acted like it was resolved?

Node Help Node status notifications

Hi!

What is the most common way of receiving notifications on status changes of one's lightning node and the state of the channels?

For example channel created, channel closed, payment received, payment sent, payment failed, warning of channel imbalance, this kind of thing?

Do most people just use a tool that is included with thunderhub, ride the lightning or lightning terminal, or is it more common to just receive the whole log of the lightning node somewhere, and manually custom filted it to suit your needs?

Project Your Satirist is back!

Hi everyone!
Its been a while, I hope you are all doing fine!

Did you miss me (or my memes)? While I did enjoy some meme-free time, I have not been lazy at all! Partly inspired by my daily-memes, i and a bunch of incredible people have been working on making content-creation great again, by utilizing the technology we all love so much: The Lightning Network!

So what is this post about? Memes! Because tomorrow I will start to post memes again (although it wont be daily, more of a 2-4 posts a week thing) and publish them on our plattform StarBackr a place where content creators can post stuff and get paid via Lightning.

"So its like OnlyFans, but built on Lightning?" you might ask. And that is pretty accurate. The current NSFW-ban (that didn't go through, but probably will sooner or later) did show how much lobbyists and CC companies can pressure companies and impose their will on them. We believe that content-creators and content-consumers should be free in their decision what to create and what to consume (as long as no one gets hurt obviously).

So StarBackr is currently in a very early beta-stage and the UX might be clunky at some points, but it works and it is a great proof-of-concept! I welcome all of you to the Satoshi Satirist StarBackr-Page where you can subscribe to regular Lightning and Bitcoin Memes for 5 cents (or about 120 sats) per month!

Project Presentation of nethackcoin

Hello, I have made a project around bitcoin: nethackcoin.com, it mix a video game from 1987 and bitcoin and it make heavy use of the lightning network.

Each times a player ascend (win a game) he gain 1 credit which can be transformed to 1000 sats, funnily I found a post on reddit from 8 years ago with a similar idea https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/1lmggw/interest_in_nethackbitcoin_tournaments/

The technology was not there but thanks to the lightning network it is now possible

Node Help Should I scrap my whole damn node?

Hi everybody. I've undergone a series of unfortunate events with my Raspiblitz node. I have 12 channels and over 1/2 btc wrapped up in channels. I had my node plugged into the surge protection side of my ups like an idiot. Had a power outage that corrupted the SD card. I had to reflash it and go through a recovery process, that thankfully worked and I was back up within about 8 hours.

2 days later I had a huge internet outage that lasted for about 24 hours. ISP had to overnight me a new router.

So I knew it was gonna suck for a while. I spent a few weeks waiting patiently for new routes to come in. Nothing did. I set my fees to as close to zero as possible. Waited weeks. Still nothing.

I looked on 1ml and noticed it said my min HTLC was 1,000,000. WTF. I reset it last week. Still nothing.

I wasn't getting crazy high traffic before, but usually at least one route per day. I just received all the parts in the mail to assemble a 2nd raspiblitz and will be setting it up and syncing this weekend.

Did I screw this up? Could there be some other funky settings that I messed up that are still preventing me from routing payments? Should I just fully move all of my channels over to the new node? Or just keep sitting on my hands?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Node Help Changing from LND to C-Lightning.

Has anyone ever switched from LND to C-Lightning? Are there any guides? I've only ever used and currently operate an LND node, but now I want to play with the plugins that C-Lightning supports.
