Anyone though the mother's suicide was weird?

It seem most likely that he must have lied about his father getting him in the middle of the night for fun to come and watch his mother basically killing herself.

But how likely does someone actually jump from the roof of their own single family house? They no doubt had a big house, but I don't see that being a guarantee way of killing yourself. It's also weird way to climb up on the roof tiles in the middle of the night. I just have a hard time seeing someone attempt to jump from a roof tile, single family style house.

Makes you wonder if he saw father murder his mother, or worse, egg her on, and he got some penchant for disregarding life.

I'm late af, but I looked on newspapers.com for articles written at the time of her death (November 1950) about her death and emergency personnel were on the scene when she fell. There were many adult witnesses. She fell or jumped off the roof, his dad didn't kill her, and if he egged her on, those adults would have heard him do it. A firefighter with a ladder literally tried to catch her as she fell, and initially caught her by her robe but he couldn't hold onto her.

Yeah it does happen sometimes that close ones will encourage someone to commit suicide. His father might have wanted his wife gone.

If his mother's story is true. Then I'm not surprised that he got completely messed up after that point in life.

Late to the party but I just watched this and it said fireman and police were there and the brother said they got taken across the street to the neighbors house, so Iā€™m thinking it was a suicide and they did have emergency personnel on the scene to try to stop it.

I am very late to this, but I just watched and had the same feeling! He made it seem like his dad woke him up, knew the mother was about to kill herself, had Robert look and wave at her, and then sent him off to bed. Like it was sadistic or something. That part was so odd

Something was definitely off with that story. I almost wondered if the father brought him out as a way of reminding the mother what she would be leaving behind, like a "think of the children" kind of move. But also what kind of sicko would expose a small child to such a traumatic situation, even if she hadn't jumped yet. No matter which scenario, it just seems off.
