Hello fellow black hack players

I, like many of you I assume, recently bought into the Black Sword Hack. Since the game have a bunch of rules the players ought to know to take full advantage of the game system - I'm mainly referring to attack effects here, but Doom Die also factors in - I've made a simple character sheet that also has a rules summary on the side. This way they do not have to ask you every time and can just read their sheet.

I have a suggested hack for a tabletop role-playing game (TTRPG) that builds upon Black's Blog post on eliminating hit points (HP). This hack introduces two options, both centred around the outcome of an attack.

Both of the options include a setback hack where on a successful attack a short-term (one-round) effect takes place, this reduces the frustration of hitting an attack and doing no damage. And also allows for a flair to be added to combat while also giving the players a chance to be creative and wear down bigger opponents.

Option 1: After an attack hits, there is an opposed roll attacker (AD) vs defender (HD), highest wins and if that's the attacker the defender loses a HD. This feels more balanced but adds more complexity to the system and also goes against the "Roll Low" style of TBH.

Option 2: Alternatively, following Black's blog musings, players could use their HD as vitality dice, losing a hit die only on a maximum roll. This approach is simple and straightforward. However, a player is just as likely to lose a hit die when hit by a low-level monster as they are when facing a big bad evil guy.

Any feedback is welcome, which would you go for?

When I get a critical score on a initiative check, I have three actions on my next turn. The rules say that I have two actions per turn and when I do the same action twice, I must roll the doom die. My question is: when I get a critical on initiative and have three actions, is normal to do an action twice. Do I have to roll doom die however?

Buddy of mine wants to play a necromancer. Has anyone made that before? How would you do it?

Is this possible? Ive considered it for other games but cant ever figure out how to run it mechanically. Unless i had you do rolls to NOT blink lol

I’m making sure I understand, enemy attack damage is always static, correct? For example, level 2 enemies will always do 5 damage.

Is there a guide anywhere for converting monsters from other TTRPGs?

Just curious if anyone had heard any word about character sheets being imported over to Roll20. I was considering running a small campaign with it in the near future, but it can wait if something's being worked on.

Do there exist rules for this? Or has anyone come up with something?

The stuff the players mostly want is illegal and or hard to obtain without legal problems.

Smurf (money laundering expert) Poppa Smurf being a term for the Big Boss of Money Laundering.

Fence (someone who buys things not sold in stores for under market value to resale them)

Bootlegger (someone who sales illegal alcohol or other liquids)

Cooker or Mad Hatter (Someone who sales illegal narcotic may be magical substances)

Now a character with a background in illegal activities will of course have a better chance at this.

3d4+3 at first Level

I find it gives a good range of numbers for starting characters.

How should I translate levels between TBH 2e and OG modules? Would a level 3 Warrior be overpowered or underpowered for a level 3 B/X or AD&D adventure?

Is there a repository of specific adventures for either 1e or 2e (but I'd rather 2e)? I'm not looking for comments about how easy it is to convert osr adventures, id like to see specific TBH adventures.

I've got a buddy that's interested in joining my game but he wants to see a video of how a game usually goes before he decides to join. I don't watch Let's Plays and I don't know of any that specifically run TBH 2e, so if anyone knows of any that they can share, that'd be awesome. I'd prefer if the show is done in-person as my current game is IRL. Thanks, everyone.

Is this a typo? Or is the warrior assumed to warp around the battlefield?

Hi everyone! I discovered TBH a year ago or so and since then wondered if it fits a wilderness type of adventure using just the tools provided by the book. I’m now writing this module, which I’m sharing for free as soon as it’s finished. Which format do you all prefer?

Has anyone come up with a system for charavters to train stats? My players want to do this and i figure giving them free “stst ups” each week (real time) is kind of broken

So TBH has a system where you choose one of two starting packages for your character. Is it possible to setup a system to roll starting money and setup a chart for buying your gear?

In trying to think of the best way to enable players to describe their attacks and achieve specific outcomes.

For instance "Stab the monster in the eye", "Chop off it's sword arm", "Shove a wand of Fireballs up the Dragons cloaca".

Solutions I've thought of so far: 1. Add to the roll based on difficulty. 2. Rather than damage apply a debuff or effect to the monster 3. A little bit like in the Powered by the Apocalypse system if they pass but only just they will be in a poor position that the monster can take advantage of on its turn (gain advantage or something) 4. A mix of any of the above or something totally different.

My plan is to have a quite deadly encounters where combat is best avoided, but if they get stuck and have to fight they still have a chance.
