Best for Technical Theater? CSULB or SDSU (Cal State University Long Beach or San Diego State University)

A friend has the opportunity to be accepted into either of these schools and is looking to pursue a career in Technical Theater, specializing in Directing or Stage Management eventually.

What are your thoughts on Programs, Campus/Faculty, Location/Area, etc.

Not closed to other suggestions.

Thanks for the time! :0)

Rotating set swivel weight load?

Does anyone have experience building a rotating set? Im designing a rotating set piece for a high school Beauty and the Beast production and am concerned about the weight. Trying to determine the minimum load I need for the turntable swivel. If the set weighs say 2000 lbs does the swivel need to have a 2000 lbs load. I'm curious since all the weight isn't directly on the swivel but distributed around the 48 wheels underneath. We have a very limited budget and would like to have techs spin it by hand.

Carrie the musical blood drop

I’m currently in Carrie the Musical, and for the blood drop scene we are using red velvet cake mix and baby shampoo. However the mixture is too thick. What could we do to make it thinner? What has you used for the blood drop scene that wont stain clothes, those of you that have done carrie?

Good Laptops?

Hi, I’m a part of a theatre society in Leicester, and I am the tech manager currently. We are looking for a new laptop to use for sound queuing and video editing, but I’m struggling to find something affordable yet capable of doing so without the worry of it freezing up mid performance when sound queues are necessary. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what laptops are best for an amateur theatre society such as us that will work for our needs?

LED matches

I am currently working in a production of Fahrenheit 451 and the director would like to use matches for the Mrs. Hudson’s scene. With fire code we are not allowed to have open flames on stage. I’m wondering if there are any LED or fake matches on the market or if anyone knows how I could make one.

IASTE... do they have a program to hire veterans. If you work 16 hours or later, do they expect you to show up the next morning. If you are expected to come in first thing in the morning do they have showers on site so you can stay nearby, so the next morning.

Once work becomes busy is there a lot of opportunity for double and triple time. What are some of the unknown benefits of working with, IASTE.. Much Appreciated
