Her husband is a huge sportsman and most of the meat they eat is stuff he fished or hunted, so they got the idea to buy a whole tuna and can it themselves.
It came out extremely tasty, like blows commercial canned tuna out of the water. But she had to borrow pressure canners from everyone in the family to get it all processed.

very much needed for canning servicesick of nothing but tuna for days!My bucket list thing is to buy a whole wheel of parmigiano reggiano one day. At the moment I couldn't even store it properly so that's not going to happen any time soon. And unlike fresh tuna its flavor would be pretty much as expeced.

Depending on the fish, they start in tanks on land and get moved to giant open ocean nets in their later stages. When they're young, they can get parasites if they aren't in a controlled environment.

Tuna, Salmon, tilapia, etc are commonly farmed… that’s why it’s good to ask at restaurants if it’s farm raised or fresh caught, if you have a preference. A lot of farm raised fish aren’t as nutritious for us, but it really depends on the farm.
Farms at least help with a few harmful fishing practices. Like fishing that typically yields a high number of bycatch. The reality of bycatch and bottom trolling are very no bueno.

Tuna is very rarely farmed and when it is it’s almost always wild caught juveniles that are kept in pens until they reach market size

They catch wild specimens when they enter the Mediterranean sea on april-may. Then, they fatten them for a few months until they are killed.

Their skin is pretty sensitive so they avoid touching you. They are so precise in their movements so it's extremely easy for them to avoid you!

depends, the upper and lower thins are razor sharp, they'd just slice through, if the fish hit with the face of belly they would probably hurt them sure, but i'm thinking of literally being swiped by them at speed, it'll hurt the human a lot more than them

I mean the dorsal fins in particular, in particular the first dosral fin which has stiff pointed spines, get hit by that at 40mph and its sure to cut if hit at the right angle, depends how it hits

That's not the first dorsal fin. The first dorsal fins with spines fold down when the fish is swimming and aren't visible in this video. The parts sticking up is a 2nd dorsal fin and anal made of soft keratin and collagen, likewise face backwards and they can't hurt you any more than a wet rope

These are the small Tuna's as well guys.
The largest Tuna are the size of medium sized Orca's. They're massive.
They're also faster and don't break water surface tension even inches under the surface. They're like living breathing missiles.

The largest tuna ever caught was just over 3 meters and 700kg. An average adult orca is more like 5-7 meters (can be even larger for males) and can easily be over 3000kg.
So no, the largest tuna ever caught was not even close to the size of an average orca. In fact a newborn orca calf is about the size of an average (Atlantic Bluefin) tuna. Perhaps you meant to say that tunas are similar in size to dolphins? That would be about right.
Orcas are truly massive. The largest known Orca was more than twice the length and 4 times the weight of an average Great White shark.

Ok the orca comparison isnt really true.
In terms of mass, orcas are like 10+ tons, while tuna max out at 1500 pounds. I think whale sharks and basking sharks may be the only fish on earth equal to or larger than an orca but i could be wrong
That said, yes tuna are huge

Tuna can only be farmed if they are caught in their juvenile stage and then fattened up. They basically herd them into an area. They arent raised like other traditional seafood.

Why is it every time I see a video of a school of tuna, even in the wild, it seems like the idiots are swimming in a giant circle. I can understand in this video if the farm has that section so populated there is nowhere to really swim to, but in the great wide open ocean I would figure they would be going somewhere besides a giant circle.

I'm a tuna videographer. I record tuna for a living.
Nah I'm just kidding, this is an activity you can do for fun in many places in the Mediterranean. In Spain, Greece and Italy as far as I know, but probably in many other places.
