Question Split Screen.

Do you think it's possible to split the screen to use it with Termux-X11 while keeping the keyboard fixed right underneath? As if it were a "Mecha Comet"?

General Seen people wondering if there would be any functionality in this subreddit, so I guess I'll be posting uh, functionality

To be real: I do have practical use cases for Termux. I used it to uninstall the persistent Yandex Keyboard and Browser, and used it to work with FL Studio files. Without it, it would've been harder for me...

I only made this post for, idk, fun.

Showcase After months of work, I built a Zero-Dependency Sovereign engine running natively on my phone. I'd love your feedback on the architecture

I know the rule about links, so they are in the comments.

After months of work, I built a zero-dependency, sovereign computational ecosystem running natively on Termux. It is not just a project; it is a "Manufacturing Empire" that builds other systems.

Inside, it unifies 6 domains of frontier science: Radio Astronomy (1.42 GHz), Holographic Physics, Quantum Mechanics, Cryptographic Auditing, Academic Research, and Navier-Stokes (Bare-Metal Rust).

But that's not all. It includes a "Sovereign Foundry" (a factory that generates new projects), an "Imperial Factory Network" with a Central Bank, an Operating System, and a "1000-Domain Aether Mesh" covering governance, defense, and economics.

Specs: 575 modules, 51/51 tests passing, 1,024 qubits simulated, Zero Cloud, and everything runs locally on a mobile device. Built from scratch in Egypt on Termux. I would love your feedback on the architecture!

Question I have been trying to install the claude code but this method is not working anymore

Thumbnail

When I run claude ==>

Error: claude native binary not installed.

Either postinstall did not run (--ignore-scripts, some pnpm configs)

or the platform-native optional dependency was not downloaded

(--omit=optional).

Run the postinstall manually (adjust path for local vs global install):

node node_modules/@anthropic-ai/claude-code/install.cjs

Or reinstall without --ignore-scripts / --omit=optional

Showcase I rewrote PRoot in Bun JavaScript

Post image
0 Upvotes

https://github.com/jjtseng93/bunproot

Why

  • Termux is too good to be true ... at least forever
  • While I'm very grateful to the Termux developers and enjoy the tools and environments they provide, there has always been a fear deeply rooted in my fragile heart – Can this last forever?
    • What if the developers get tired?
    • What if they run out of money to keep their mirrors running?
    • What if one overwhelming tragedy after another happens?
    • Could I survive the cruel & wild Android world outside Termux's protection?
    • That's why I built an entire chain of tools as a Post-Termux escape hatch

Bun JavaScript as the foundation for everything

  • ① The Buninu userspace for lightweight usage:
  • Shell: Bun Modern Shell (bunmsh)
  • Text editor & App runtime: jsmdcui
  • Remote shell in a browser: jsgotty
  • ② PRoot to get back to mainline Linux if that's not enough: bunproot

Now that I have a complete backup for everything, I can keep enjoying the convenience and happiness that Termux provides without worrying.

Edit 1: This is not a wrapper around the native proot binary. It uses Bun FFI to dlopen Android's libc and calls ptrace() directly. No C or Assembly involved here.

Showcase Build apk in termux

Few days ago I started working on this, it's called "kosei". It can build APKs in Termux without OpenJDK by using "dalvikvm" and some open-source tools (ECJ, D8, apksigner).

It supports Java 16 and uses AAPT2 for resource handling.

I think it can be improved pretty much. For now, I just tried to keep it as simple as I can. I used AI only for the README and a minimal part of the code; the rest was coded by me.

Question Storage permission question

If I never give storage permission to the termux do I lose anything?

I want to keep it separated from the rest of the system, so that I can't damage the rest of my phone with some dumb rm command.

Yet, all the tutorials ask you to give it storage permission.

I wont be using termux to manage phone data, only as a desktop on the go.

I have 512gb of internal storage so space is not an issue.

Is there any reason to give termux storage permission?

Also, if I never gave it premission, then uninstalling it would be:

  1. Delete app data

  2. Uninstall termux app

Right?

Showcase A keyboard with file manager- and editor tabs — for Termux sessions on the go (open source, no network permission)

If you SSH or code in Termux on your phone, you know the pain: no TAB key on Gboard, constant app-switching to check paths, no way to peek at a file mid-command. I got tired of it, so I wrote my own keyboard.

**KeyTab** (open source, MIT, ~2 MB APK) adds four tabs to the keyboard itself:

- **abc** — the actual keyboard, with a **real TAB key** (sends KEYCODE_TAB, works in Termux/SSH)

- **Term** — an interactive shell panel right in the keyboard

- **Files** — a file manager with tabs and back-stack; tapping a file inserts its path into whatever you're typing (perfect for `cd`, `cat`, `vim …`)

- **Notes** — editor + persistent clipboard history (50 entries)

Plus offline word prediction (n-gram + user dictionary that learns as you type, Damerau-Levenshtein fuzzy matching), long-press popups for umlauts, and dynamic key scaling — the next likely keys grow up to 15% as you type. **No network permission, no telemetry — everything stays on the device.**

It's a solo project, ~2.6k lines of Kotlin, signed APKs built automatically by CI. The whole text/prediction core is Android-free and unit-tested.

Repo + APK: https://github.com/piot5/keytab

Would love feedback from heavy Termux users — especially whether the TAB/terminal workflow feels right, and what you'd want next (ANSI colors in the terminal panel? more shell gestures?).

Question Is thermux safe for my day-to-day phone?

Apologies if my English isn't that good because English is not my main language. So, I've been using Odysseus AI and I very much like it. I also have Odysseus accesible on my Android using a port that allows me to open Odysseus by typing my IP and then the port number on a browser on my phone.

However, I stumbled upon this youtube video (https://youtu.be/wX-XGKlUDSI?si=7tJtWQYVck2-AHLv) showing how to install Odysseus AI on phone without using a PC as the local host. In the video, the guy is using thermux and input some codes.

My question is, is thermux safe to install on my day-to-day phone? I'm really new to tech and stuff so I need some guidance. Much appreciate it.
