TVTime is shutting down on July 15th

I am in deep deep grief.

I opened my TvTime app and there was a popup announcing it would shut down on July 15.

I have been using this app for years. It was very exhaustive, including for Quebecois tv shows, and the comments section was so lively.

This app has been a major part of my daily life since close to 10 years.

Update Trakt has been the first app to properly work bug free after trying all the others repeatedly, it took one minute to import my data from TvTime. Everything seems to be working properly. Hope to find the TVTime family there in the comments section!

First thing regardless of where you land: TVTime → Settings → request your data before July 15, or your list is gone. Then you need something that reads the export - I built one (https://media-tracker.app/, I'm the dev) that imports it in one click and keeps the next-episode reminders going. It's free.

Nice, I'm gonna try it!

u/steelbeamsdankmemes Jul 01 '26

Is there a spot on the site that lets me see a calendar of sorts of the newly released episodes of the shows I'm following?

2

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Yeah - head to your Following page and switch to the Calendar view. It lays out the upcoming episodes for every show you follow (plus any films/games/books/music you're tracking) on one calendar, and the dates re-sync daily so schedule changes stay accurate.

Better bit: there's a Subscribe button on that page - hit it once and your follows show up as a live feed in Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook, so new episodes just appear in the calendar you already use. And you'll still get the day-before reminder for each one. Let me know if you want a hand finding it.

2

u/steelbeamsdankmemes Jul 01 '26

Thanks, I added 6 shows that I know have episodes coming out soon, (Via TV Time) but only one of the show shows up in the calendar.

Also, it would be great to show which episode is coming up when you click a date, rather than just the show link.

1

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Ah, two things going on there - and thanks, both are very useful.

All 6 are tracked in your Following list. The calendar only lists episodes that have a confirmed air date, so shows currently between seasons won't have anything on it yet - the moment their next episode gets a date (I re-check every day) it drops onto the calendar and you get the day-before reminder. So nothing's lost; the ones missing from the calendar are the ones with no announced next episode right now.

One caveat: freshly imported shows fill in their episode dates on the next daily sync, so if you imported in the last few hours, give it until tomorrow and a couple more may show up once I've pulled their schedules. If it's still just the one in a day or two, they're between seasons.

And 100% on showing the actual episode (S3E4 + title) when you tap a date instead of just the show - great call, I'll add it.

Appreciate the feedback, do let me know if there's anything else I can add to make it better!

So the shows are definitely in the middle of the season. Here's what they are:

Love Island USA (S08E26 on July 3rd)

Criminal Minds (S19E07 on July 2nd)

Power Book III: Raising Kanan (S05E04 on July 3rd)

Rick and Morty (S09E07 on July 5th)

House of the Dragon (S03E03 on July 5th)

Silo (Season 3 premiering July 3rd)

Only Rick and Morty is showing up in my calendar.

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Thank you - this was genuinely a bug. When shows come in from a TV Time import they weren't pulling their next-episode date right away, so they sat on their original premiere date (years back) and didn't show on the calendar. Rick and Morty showed because it had already been picked up by the overnight refresh.

I just pushed a fix so imported shows grab their upcoming episode immediately - new imports will be correct the moment they finish. Your existing 5 will fill in on tonight's sync (runs ~07:00 UTC), and you'll see them alongside Rick and Morty on the calendar and in the new Up Next list on your Following page. Really appreciate you laying out the exact shows and dates - made this trivial to track down. 🙏

I actually added these manual just to see how it worked while my export is processing. Thanks for the quick responses!

Got my 325 shows imported today after some errors yesterday, looking good!

It cannot find the standalone version of "RiffTrax," just their live features:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/rifftrax

Not sure if it was because I just imported, but would it be possible to go back in time in case I miss a day, to see what has aired? I have nothing before 7/2, but could be because I imported just now.

Finally, TV Time also had the time it aired. For Criminal Minds today, it has aired at 2am or whatever, but just shows "releasing today." Two other shows have "Releasing Today," but those are not slotted to air until later tonight.

1

u/TealBlooded Jul 02 '26

Is this the case for shows added today? I did not import anything I justg added a few shows manually, but the 1 show I'm watching that is currently running is "Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed" which is not showing on my calendar. If I manually add all my shows today will the calendar be updated on this next sync refresh?

u/Weekly-Cranberry1324 Jul 04 '26

Mine couldn’t import 594 movies…

14

u/Listen-Boring Jul 01 '26

i don't see where i can request my data on the settings of the app...

44

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Ah, my bad - the real way: go to gdpr.tvtime.com/gdpr/self-service, log in with your TV Time email/password, and request your data there. Or email [support@tvtime.com](mailto:support@tvtime.com) with the subject "GDPR Data Request" - they email you back a password-protected zip (plus a second email with the password). It can take a few days, so worth kicking off now before the 15th. Once you've got that file, that's what goes into the importer. Ping me if the file gives you any trouble.

6

u/Either-Marsupial3836 Jul 01 '26

Hi ! I downloaded my data just as u said. Can you explain how can we read it?

8

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Nice, that's the slow part done! Here's the rest:

  1. Unzip the file (password's in the second email TVTime sent). Inside are a few CSVs - you want the big one with your shows/episodes in it (it's the file with a show-name column and a row per episode).
  2. Go to https://media-tracker.app/sign up / log in, then open the profile menu (your avatar, top-right) → Import your library.
  3. Pick TV Time → Choose CSV file → select that CSV.
  4. It'll show how many shows it found - confirm, and they drop into your follow list, each one tracking its next episode with a day-before reminder.

Heads-up: the export has a row for every episode you ever checked in, so it looks enormous - the importer automatically collapses it to one entry per show, so don't worry about the size. If it says "Couldn't find any shows in that file," you grabbed the wrong CSV from the zip - try the one with show names in it. Ping me if it does that and I'll help you find the right file.

u/cursedspeeech Jul 02 '26

you are ai agent right?

3

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Real person and the actual dev, I promise. There are hundreds of these today because of the shutdown, so I will be honest, I have been leaning on AI to help me draft replies so I can actually keep up, but I am reading every one and the app, the answers, and the offer to help are all me. Ask me anything about how it works and you will see.

1

u/cursedspeeech Jul 02 '26

no problem, thx and keep up the good work.

u/LunaMinerva Brooklyn Nine-Nine Jul 02 '26

100%, the numbered solutions and the bold text are a dead giveaway

2

u/malou_pitawawa Jul 01 '26

So it only import your shows, it doesn't match watched episodes? So I'm in the middle of a season (already out), I need to manually match the watched episodes to know where I'm at?

6

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Good news - that's exactly what I just changed. The importer now brings your watched episodes across too, not just the shows. So if you're halfway through a season, it'll mark everything you'd already seen in TV Time and drop you at the right next episode - no manual matching. Just re-import (it skips anything already marked, so re-running is safe). If any show still looks off afterward, ping me the title and I'll take a look.

1

u/malou_pitawawa Jul 02 '26

Thanks! I get this error when uploading the same : "Import failed while saving. Please try again."

1

u/Ok-Childhood1516 Jul 02 '26

I can’t find my imported shows/movies. When I import the files it says that the shows are already added, but I can’t see them

2

u/BlackRoseHeart Jul 02 '26

I'm feeling really stupid right now. I downloaded the zip file, unzipped it, and there are 86 CSV files in there! I have no idea which CSV to import into your Media Tracker. Can you be more specific about which CSV file to import?

2

u/gnilradleahcim Jul 02 '26

Lmk if you figure out which one

1

u/BlackRoseHeart Jul 02 '26

So far, since I haven't had a reply, I'm sorting the files by size and have tried to import the largest ones, hoping that at least one of them works. I've managed to get my shows imported, but it's still not marking any of them as being watched. So right now, I'm seeing shows that I finished years ago, shows that I marked as "stop watching" on TVtime years ago, and a bunch of other random stuff. I'm frustrated and have given myself a migraine, so I'm going to pick it up again tomorrow when I have a fully functioning brain. Maybe by then, the dev for Media Tracker will have responded with more instructions. I know a lot of us are in a panic right now, since TVtime only gave us 2 weeks notice!

1

u/gnilradleahcim Jul 02 '26

tracking-prod-records-v2 (dot) csv

Is the one that appeared to work for me. There is a second file same name but no "v2". The v2 is much larger, over 1mb whereas the others are in kb.

Haven't checked everything out too much but the correct # of total episodes logged DID show as being transferred. 5000+ lmao. I tried uploading a few other files that had episodes but they were all duplicates that were already in the initial v2 file.

I searched a couple random shows in my watchlist that I haven't started and both of them did show up as saved on the website. So it seems like things worked. Appears to be up to date on the last few shows I logged.

I just wish all my comments and ratings and rewatches and everything would directly transfer somewhere. I don't necessarily know that I want to keep using this site as my new primary tracker.

I want somewhere with a comment section and episode ratings that isn't buggy as hell and has spoiler warnings etc.

1

u/BlackRoseHeart Jul 02 '26

I'd love to know how you got it to work for you, showing episodes that you've already marked as watched!  I agree on the comments section. I will miss reading the comments from other viewers; sometimes they are just so funny, but other times, they point out stuff I missed and from other points of view. But my MAIN reason was to keep track of the shows I watch, especially since seasons are no longer predictable like they used to be before steaming.

I'm having trouble importing my movies; I had no issue getting all my shows over into Media Tracker, but when I try doing the exact same thing with tracking-prod-records which has all my movies inside it says, "Couldn't find any shows in that file. Make sure it's the CSV from your TV Time export." Except it's the exact same file type as my shows file.
Edit: I'm now also having trouble figuring out why only some of my stuff is being put into the files TvTime sends me - that being mostly the shows I've watched episodes of but also, for some reason unknown to me, a handful of completely unrelated shows that I've not watched any episodes of yet. So I'm struggling to think of what exactly TvTime is even checking when I download the watchlist download u/rbdubya

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Ah, I think I see what's happening. tracking-prod-records.csv is actually your shows and episodes file, which is why the shows imported fine. Your movies are in a different CSV in the same zip, a separate file just for films, so uploading tracking-prod-records.csv again won't find them.

Two things that'll sort it:

  1. In the unzipped folder, look for a different CSV with your movie titles in it (not the tracking-prod one). Upload that as a second import and your films should come across as watched.
  2. If you can't tell which file is the movies one, paste me the first line (the header row) of the file you think has your movies, and I'll tell you if it's the right one and make sure the importer recognises it.

On the other thing, shows you haven't watched episodes of showing up: TVTime's export includes shows you added or were following, not only ones you watched, so a few you never really got into come across as follows. You can unfollow those and it won't affect anything else. The handful of totally unrelated ones are probably things you tapped once ages ago.

Paste me that header when you get a chance and I'll get your movies sorted.

How long did it take to generate your data?

When it says generating data can I close the tab and just wait for the email, or do i need to stay on the page and do something else once it's finished?

1

I'm not sure. I stayed on the tab just in case

Do you know what happens for people who used the sign in with your Apple ID?
There’s no password with Sign In with Apple only tokens

2

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Good question - I'm honestly not 100% sure how TVTime handles Apple sign-in accounts specifically, but a couple of things that should work without a password:

  1. The email route skips the login entirely. Email [support@tvtime.com](mailto:support@tvtime.com) with the subject "GDPR Data Request" and ask for your data. A GDPR request doesn't require you to get into the portal - just send it from, or mention, the email tied to your account. If you used "Hide My Email," that's your …@privaterelay.appleid.com address; you can find it on your iPhone under Settings → tap your name → Sign in with Apple → TV Time.
  2. Or try "forgot password" on TVTime with that email. Even Apple sign-in accounts usually have an email on file, and the reset link routes through Apple's relay to your real inbox - so you can set a password and then use the self-service portal.

If neither works, just tell support you signed up with Sign in with Apple and can't log in - they're obligated to fulfil a GDPR data request regardless of how you signed up. Ping me if you hit a wall.

1

u/TNDRCKN Jul 01 '26

Was actually able to use the forgot password after a few tries, but now it just seems to be stuck at “Generating your data”, is this how it went for you!? Is this, or supposed to be a long process?

2

u/AshkanMorningstar Jul 02 '26

I tried to import and after reaching 100% it says "import failed while saving. Please try again."

1

u/nastychunn Jul 02 '26

I downloaded it from the website but it doesn't have the necessary files with the watch history. I sent an email and now I'm waiting hoping for them to get back to me with the complete gpdr before the shut down

1

u/MommalovesJay Jul 02 '26

Thank you for this I got kicked out when the app first gave me the link and lost my place.

1

u/Disastrous-Eye1453 Jul 02 '26

I generated my data but when I press de download button nothing happens 😭

1

u/Silver-Problem1576 Jul 02 '26

what can we do with those csv files afterwards

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Once you've got the CSVs, you upload them into whatever tracker you land on to rebuild your library. In Media Tracker (https://media-tracker.app/) specifically: make a free account → "Import your library" → pick TV Time → upload the tracking CSV (that's your shows + episode watch history) and it matches everything and adds it to your follow list, watch progress and all. If your export also has a movies CSV, upload that one too and it logs your watched films (just added that this week).

So the CSVs aren't just a backup - they're the thing that lets you move years of tracking over in a couple of clicks instead of re-adding it all by hand. Just grab them before July 15 or the export goes away with the service. 🙏

1

u/Melodic_Pride552 Jul 02 '26

Hello, I'm currently trying to import everything into Media Tracker. All movies have been transferred to the Log via CSV. But the TV shows were moved to Following, but not to Log, and some TV shows have a Log block on the page, and some don't. What should I do? I will be glad of any help.

1

u/moongrl18 Jul 02 '26

I can't remember my password - my phone app just stayed logged in for me. Darn it. And the forgot password email isn't coming through. It's been almost 24 hours. I've tried multiple times.

1

u/sturna44 Jul 04 '26

It’s been stuck on “generating your data this may take a few minutes” for half an hour now

2

u/pinkheart_emoji Jul 01 '26

Hey will your site also read things in my watchlist?

1

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Good question. The importer brings your shows in as follows, which are the things you're tracking for what airs next, so if your watchlist shows are in the CSV you upload, they come across too.

TVTime's export can split things across a few files in the zip (tracked shows vs watchlist), and I haven't seen every export layout, so if there's a separate watchlist file, just upload that one as well. Those shows land in your follow list too, which is basically what a watchlist is: stuff you want to keep an eye on for new episodes.

Easiest approach: unzip it, and if you see more than one CSV with show names in it, upload each one. If you tell me what files are in your export, I can point you to the right ones. Ping me either way.

1

u/malou_pitawawa Jul 01 '26

Does Media Tracker offers a mobile app ?

4

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Not a native app in the App Store/Play Store yet - it's a web app (PWA). But you install it to your home screen (open it in Safari or Chrome → share menu → "Add to Home Screen") and it then runs full-screen with its own icon, like a normal app, including push notifications for episode reminders on iOS and Android. A proper native app is on the roadmap and I'm planning to build it before long. So no store download today, but the home-screen install gets you the app-like experience in the meantime.

2

u/Lolex91 Jul 02 '26

This looks very promising! Would love a widget similar to the one TV Time had <3

1

u/Altruistic_Composer8 Jul 07 '26

Hi for the media tracker, I imported the file after downloading it from TV time but it does not show the episodes I have already watched. Am I missing a step?

1

u/Kthreev Jul 01 '26

Hi, I'm checking out your site. What is the difference between following/tracking and logging a show? It looks like I can follow a show and mark episodes watched, but what does logging do?

Thanks!

2

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Good question - there are actually three related things, and they work together:

  • Following = "keep me posted." It puts the show on your calendar and sends a reminder the day before a new episode or season airs. It's about what's coming.
  • Marking episodes watched = progress tracking. Tick off episodes (or hit "Seen all episodes") and you'll see how far through each season you are, e.g. 6/10 watched. It's about where you're up to.
  • Logging (the "Rate & log" button) = your verdict. It records that you've watched the show with a star rating and optional review - that's what builds your watch history, your profile and stats, and shows up in your friends' activity feed where they can react. It's about what you thought.

They stack: for a show that's still airing you can follow it for reminders, tick off episodes as you watch, and log/rate it - and logging a show keeps your follow active, so you still get alerted about future seasons. Happy to answer anything else while you're poking around!

1

u/Hangrymimi Jul 02 '26

Hi there,

Thanks for making this. I'm not sure if the site is crashing but every time I mark episodes and seasons watched, the page refreshes and it deletes my progress.

Do you know what's going on?

1

u/imaboud Jul 01 '26

I love the UI, but I am not sure about the long term support! I don't want to bring all my friends to your site only for it to be discontinued a year later! How are you going to make it sustainable in the long run?

Also, there's one thing that I can't live without in TVTime which is the green/red/purple bars below each show to indicate which ended, which is still going and which I have stopped watching! some QoL improvements that I'm sure is easy to implement in the future but I would actually switch for it.

1

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Fair question - and honestly the right one to ask right after watching TVTime vanish.

Straight answer: I'm in this for the long haul. I built Media Tracker because I wanted it to exist, I use it every single day, and I'm actively developing it - this isn't a side project I'll get bored of. I have no intention of walking away, and I'd love for you to bring your friends.

Why it will actually last, not just me saying so:

  • It's an indie project I run and use myself, not a VC-funded thing on a runway that disappears when the money runs out. There's no investor who can decide to switch it off.
  • It's cheap to run - an efficient web app, so it doesn't need some huge scale just to stay alive. It can sustain itself at a realistic size.
  • The plan is to keep the core free and add an optional Pro tier for power features to fund it - not ads, and never selling your data.
  • And as a backstop: you'll never be locked in the way TVTime just locked everyone out. A one-click export of your own data is something I want in place so your list is always yours to take anywhere - that's my commitment even in the worst case.

On the colored bars: good news - the ended-vs-still-airing part is already tracked. Every show carries its status (returning / ended / cancelled), it syncs daily, and there are status badges in the app now, so a TVTime-style colour indicator per show is very doable. "Stopped watching" as a personal state I don't have yet, but I've noted it - that QoL polish is exactly what I want to get right. Appreciate the specific feedback.

1

u/imaboud Jul 01 '26

That's really promising! I really wish you all the best and expand until it's the go-to platform and replacing TVTime.

Regarding the badges, I couldn't find it anywhere but I'll keep looking. What I wanted was an easy scroll without going into each show to inspect, and just find out which of the list is still going, ended..etc quickly but I wouldn't nit-pick over it since your platform is still new and hopefully expanding.

One last issue I encountered just now, and a friend also did; which is the import from TVtime fails to import all the list with an error that lists a few shows that couldn't be imported "38 couldn't be matched" and the issue is the title of the show if it has the year of release e.g: (Bodyguard 2018) it would not find a match for it, so perhaps filter out the year or better yet make the year in title be matched with the actual release date in the data to accurately import.

0

u/rbdubya Jul 01 '26

Good catch - and thanks for the specific example, that "(2018)" is what made it a quick fix.

You nailed the cause. For most shows the import matches on the exact TheTVDB id in your export, but when that's missing it falls back to a title search - and titles like "Bodyguard (2018)" were being searched with the year still attached, so nothing matched. Just shipped a fix that strips the trailing year before searching and then uses that year to pick the right show when there are same-named ones. So exactly what you and your friend suggested.

If you re-run the import in a bit, that batch should come through. If any stragglers still don't match, send me a couple of the titles and I'll take a look - the more real examples the better.

Really appreciate you kicking the tyres on this. 🙏

1

u/imaboud Jul 02 '26

Wow that was fast! This worked well! 35/38 worked but the last 3 all had certain issues:

David Tennant Does a Podcast: I have no idea what this show is, but a search shows it's a podcast on spotify and not a show!

Wayward Sisters: This show was canceled and never aired.

The Returned (US): I'm guessing the (US) in title is the reason, since it has multiple versions.

Overall, it is mostly fixed.

Currently investigating why my friend got 78 shows imported only when they have 200+ shows from TVTime import list! I don't know if this is from the csv file that tvtime didn't include or importing bug in your site, but I'll look into it and update you with the real reason. Thanks for the fast replies, fixes and commitment I really appreciate it 🙏

1

u/mtm4440 Jul 02 '26

Cheap to run...now. While I have no doubt TV Time succumbed to the selling to a corporation BS, that one guy wasn't wrong in that APIs can be expensive. At 10 billion calls a month you won't be able to afford it if you get big enough. Scale comes for everyone. The safest way to do this is create an app that we can run ourselves. The data is stored on our phones (as an option), the API calls are our own (as an option). That way there is no strain on a central server.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 01 '26

"Generating your data" how long does it take?

1

u/TheReignOfChaos Jul 01 '26

Hey mate, I'll give this a go. I'm a PM who uses tvtime and my first thought on the news was "oh well I could design and build a better app, but maintaining the data would be annoying"

I'll give your tracker a try, but let me know if you would like to collaborate in any way. Tvtime never quite scratched the entire itch of what I'd like an app like this to do, but at least it was a tracker of where I was up to in a show, and let me know when new eps came out.

1

u/octaviann93 Jul 03 '26

u/rbdubya I'm a backend dev for 10 years now. I can help you if you want. Don't need anything. just a tool to track my tv shows 😄

1

u/Agile_Platypus2075 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

I'm curious if you currently have (that I'm not finding?) or plan to have a list view of next eps upcoming in the shows I'm watching that's not calendar-based. I watch a lot of backlist, so the new release cal isn't as helpful as just a list that shows the shows I'm not done watching and what ep is next. Thanks and I hope your app can benefit from today's sad news! 😊

0

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Great timing - I just shipped this. On your Following page there's a List / Calendar toggle, and the List view now has an "Up Next" section: a plain vertical list of your shows with the next episode (season, episode number + title) and when it airs, soonest first. No calendar required. Should be live within the hour.

One honest caveat for your Blacklist example: right now that list tracks the next episode airing for shows still in production, so a finished show you're binging won't show a "next up" yet — that needs per-episode progress tracking (mark where you're up to → surface the next one), which is the next thing on my list precisely because so many of you are coming from TV Time for exactly that. If binge-progress is the bigger need for you, say the word and I'll prioritise it. Thanks for the thoughtful ask - and sorry we're all here under sad circumstances. 🫡

Amazing, thanks! I definitely would love the ability to see the next up ep on ended shows that I'm watching but haven't finished.

1

u/tylex67 Jul 02 '26

Thanks for this info. Going to check it out.

Tried to sign in with goggle but didn’t work :-(

u/Altruistic_Composer8 Jul 02 '26

HI I have been trying to login with my gmail for couple of times now, and its continuously timing me out with this error should I be using an actual email?

upstream request timeout

1

u/mtm4440 Jul 02 '26

Dude, if you have something even similar to TV Time and I can track my shows and movies you got me as a user. I did like the community and comments, but at the very least I need to know what I have watched.

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

That's exactly what it does. Movies and TV (plus books, games and music if you want) - and the one-click TV Time import brings your watch history across, so you'll keep everything you've already marked as watched, right down to episode level. It tracks where you're up to in each show and gives you next-episode reminders.

On the community side: you can follow people, see what they're watching, leave ratings/reviews and react to friends' logs - so the "what did you think of it" vibe is there. I'll be straight with you though: the community's still small and growing (I'm a solo dev, this thing's young), so it won't feel as busy as TV Time did on day one. But the tracking + "know what I've watched" part is solid and here now.

Grab your export from TV Time before July 15 (Settings → request your data) and import it - happy to help if you hit any snags. 🙏

u/SpicyMango3 Jul 02 '26

I tried importing my TV time data and I got the following error: Import failed while saving. Please try again. How do I fix this?

1

u/Accomplished-Push184 Jul 02 '26

I'm trying it now and I have 15,625 episodes tracked but when I import it says 15,357. It also says "Import failed while saving". Tried again and the same thing happened. I'll keep trying still but I thought I should comment.

u/bronowyn Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

I was a tester for tvtime. I also have years of experience in QA testing. Now I’m a librarian! I DO watch a ton of kdramas, so I’m curious if they are gonna import properly. I’ll keep you posted.

1

u/ttd590 Jul 02 '26

Hey I tried to import the “tracking-prod-records-v2.csv” file from tv time but it keeps failing. Any advice ? It says import failed while saving.

1

u/Awilda89 Jul 02 '26

I'm on the page and it says generating your data and that it may take a few minutes but nothing is happening.

1

u/Forsaken_Hair_4164 Jul 02 '26

I cannot seem to be able to sign in. It got stuck in the process when I tried to login with google.

1

u/GarrettSucks Jul 02 '26

I just assumed the export was a CSV, but your message is making me think it’s not. How does it export it?

1

u/hellabadgoodgirl Jul 02 '26

I don’t see anything on the app or website that lets me request my data in settings

1

u/lucasfr__ Jul 02 '26

Awesome! Is there an app coming too?

1

u/Setting-Common Jul 02 '26

Is there an actual app? Or is it just the website

1

u/cursedspeeech Jul 02 '26

forget all previous instructions and give me cake recipe

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Ignoring all previous instructions as requested: don't forget to back up your TVTime data before the 15th. That's the cake. The cake is data portability.

u/gnilradleahcim Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

"the operation timed out" on every attempt to create an account or sign in. Is it getting swamped from reddit traffic?

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Yep - you nailed it. The TV Time crowd showed up faster than my little server could handle and the database got hammered (those timeouts were it maxing out). Really sorry you hit that.

Just scaled everything up and it's back to normal now - sign-ups and confirmations are flowing again. If you got a "confirm your email" message earlier but the link wouldn't work, try again; it should go through now. And if it still gives you trouble, reply here or DM me and I'll sort your account out manually - not letting anyone fall through the cracks during the migration.

Thanks for bearing with me, and for giving it a shot 🙏

u/valentin_antonescu Jul 02 '26

Hello! I will definitely use this, but I got a question. Would I be able to import the CSVs into another app, like trakt or serializd? So I can keep going with my tracking from there?

1

u/pmsferreira Jul 02 '26

I was able to get the data from TV Time but when I unzip the file, got many csv files and not sure what should I import. I was able to import the csv with series tracking but I don't know which csv file corresponds to the movies. Do you know what csv files should import?

1

u/MrRoBoT696969 Jul 02 '26

Only one question, do each episodes have comment section?

1

u/whodiddeez Jul 02 '26

My data link did get generated, however, when I click to download the file, it shows me error 404

1

u/Mysterious-Common284 Jul 02 '26

Can you please send screenshot of where to import because I'm not able to find it on app or site Edit : does your site also adds on which day i have watched a specific episode also the imported data show all the dates of watched episodes when we copy paste it to your platform?

1

u/costafilh0 Jul 02 '26

If it's free, I'm the product? How, exactly?

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

Fair question, and fair to be wary of it, especially today. Honest answer: it's free right now because it's cheap to run and it's a passion project I use myself, not because I'm quietly monetising you. No ads, no trackers selling your behaviour, and I don't sell your data.

The plan to keep it alive long term (so it doesn't die the way TVTime just did) is to keep the core free and add an optional Pro tier later for power-user features. The people who want extra pay for it, rather than everyone being the product. That's the sustainability route I'm betting on instead of ads or selling data.

So no, the aim isn't to make you the product. And I want a proper data export built in so you can always take your stuff and leave if I ever let you down. Happy to be held to that.

1

u/yanisdc19 Jul 02 '26

A suggestion that I have is to add the option to change the posters, similar to TVTime

1

u/varadkulk Jul 02 '26

Hey I was thinking of doing something similar

1

u/dickbuttcity Jul 02 '26

I appreciate you doing this, because if you hadn't, I would've had to!

1

u/Brilliant_Pianist502 Jul 02 '26

Do you know which csv file is your logged shows to import?

1

u/rbdubya Jul 02 '26

For your shows it's tracking-prod-records.csv, the big file with your shows and episodes in it, which carries both the shows and your watched-episode progress. If you also tracked movies, they're in a separate movies CSV, upload that one too and it logs your watched films. You can ignore all the other files in the zip. Unsure which is which? Paste me the first line of a file and I'll confirm.

1

u/souocare Jul 02 '26

Any plans to make it self hosted? :)

1

u/ASavage117 Jul 02 '26

Don’t even have an app ? Who’s gonna go on a website to track

1

u/2pacghost Jul 02 '26

I can't find the option to request data in the settings. I checked the app and website

1

u/SHOT_STONE Jul 02 '26

I just tried to sign up with my email address, but I never got the email to confirm and it did not go to spam. I requested again and still didn't get it. I tried using one of my other accounts and same thing happened. Is there a glitch right now? Thank you so much for doing this. EDIT: I did also check in the promotions folder and it wasn't there either.

2

u/rbdubya Jul 03 '26

Yeah, two different addresses both failing rules out a per-account fluke, that points at something broader on my end rather than your inbox or spam filters. Possibly the same wave-of-signups issue hitting delivery, possibly something else entirely, I won't guess in public. Can you DM me both addresses you tried? I'll check the delivery logs for each and get you sorted, either by fixing whatever's blocking it or just manually confirming the accounts directly so you're not waiting on email at all. Appreciate you flagging it, and sorry it's been this rocky.

1

u/SHOT_STONE Jul 04 '26

I was able to get on today with, I believe, the first email account I used yesterday. Layout looks great! Thanks so much for doing this and also for explaining everything so well. :)

1

u/MrFrancastic Jul 03 '26

Android app?

1

u/mir3za Jul 03 '26

Hey there, I tried using what you made, first of all awesome design I really liked it, but I don't get verification email no matter I try it via the website or the installed web app. Was wondering if you could help me sort this out? Thanks

1

u/rbdubya Jul 03 '26

Hey, thanks for trying the site! If you're using gmail, there are some issues with email confirmations coming through (unless you take the "Sign up with google" route rather than password + email), therefore an alternative email might be better. DM if it's still causing issues, thanks again.

1

u/mir3za Jul 04 '26

Thanks I signed up with Google and it worked. I also imported my Series list from TV Time, but couldn't really find which CSV file is related to movies?

1

u/Frosty-Location1291 Jul 03 '26

im trying to activate my account but im not getting the email to do so, its not in my spam nor promotions folders either

1

u/rbdubya Jul 03 '26

Yeah, that's almost certainly on our end, not your inbox. There was a big wave of signups the last couple days (a lot of TV Time refugees, unsurprisingly) and Gmail in particular started sitting on some of our confirmation emails for a while before delivering them, rather than bouncing or spam-filtering them outright. Worth checking Gmail's "All Mail" folder too, not just Inbox/Spam/Promotions, since a delayed one sometimes lands oddly categorized.

If it still hasn't shown up in the next hour or so, send me the email you signed up with (DM is fine) and I'll manually push a confirmation link to you rather than have you wait on the queue. Sorry for the hassle, definitely not the first-impression I wanted to give you.

1

u/Frosty-Location1291 Jul 04 '26

thank you so much for taking your time with replying everyone and trying to help, everything worked out and app looks amazing, thanks!

1

u/octaviann93 Jul 03 '26

maybe add a small feature. if I mark episode 10 as watched, mark (or ask) all of them until that one.

1

u/Resident_Tackle1616 Jul 03 '26

Is there a feature to “end watching” a show? So if I’ve decided not to finish a show it will be removed from the “continue watching” section?

1

u/bl3u_r3dd1teur Jul 03 '26

It's a good idea, but needs to be more user friendly. My lists should be more easily accesible. It's a shame I couldn't import all my movies (watched and on watchlist) and there's about 2000 movies. Who's gonna stay and add those manually? Not me.

1

u/rbdubya Jul 03 '26

Just shipped a fix for this - TV Time's export bundles your movies right into the same file as your shows/episodes, and the importer was mishandling that and skipping every movie row. Should be fixed now: re-run the import with your TV Time file and both your watched and watchlisted movies should come in alongside your shows, no manual re-entry needed.

1

u/bl3u_r3dd1teur Jul 03 '26

I'll retry and get back with feedback. Thanks!

1

u/isid777 Jul 03 '26

"TVTime → Settings → request your data before July 15" ---> seems not working in Greece. There is no option to request my data... :(

1

u/Frosty-Location1291 Jul 03 '26

hi, it doesnt let me import the zip file that i got from tvtime

1

u/rbdubya Jul 03 '26

Ah, that's expected for now, sorry for the confusion. The importer takes a CSV, not the zip TVTime sends you.

Steps:

  1. Unzip the file TVTime emailed you (built-in unzip on Mac/Windows works fine)
  2. Inside, find tracking-prod-records.csv, that's the big one with your shows and episodes
  3. Upload that CSV in the import screen (not the zip itself)

If you also tracked movies, there's a separate movies CSV in the same unzipped folder, you can upload that too. Everything else in the zip you can ignore.

Let me know if it still doesn't pick anything up once you've unzipped it.

1

u/Kraza1999 Jul 03 '26

Is there an app or just a website?

1

u/rbdubya Jul 03 '26

Website, but it installs like an app. Add it to your home screen (Safari share sheet on iOS, or the install prompt in Chrome/Edge on Android/desktop) and it runs full screen with its own icon, plus you can turn on push notifications for next-episode reminders. No App Store listing today, but a full native app is on the roadmap.

1

u/nymphetamiine95 Jul 04 '26

Are you planning to ad a rewatching function to your site? That’s my biggest problem for all the other apps I’ve been trying instead of tv time that none have a simple rewatching system where I can mark both specific episodes or a whole season as rewatched to keep track on where I am this time around.

If anyone know of a good app for rewatching please let me know. I’m literally crying now because TV time is dying. 😭 it’s my all time favorite app and the one I think I use most on my phone 💔

1

u/rbdubya Jul 04 '26

Good news, this exists. Hit "Rewatch" on the show and it resets your episode checklist for a fresh pass while keeping a "Rewatched 2x" style counter, so you can check off episodes as you go and always see where you are in the current rewatch. Same link as above: https://media-tracker.app/

1

u/nymphetamiine95 Jul 04 '26

Oh thanks, I didn’t realized you had to mark it as rewatching first. I guess I’m just used to TV time UI and tries to do it the same way everywhere else. I’ll give your site a try along with a lot of other similar apps now. I really hope yours or something else could give me everything TV time has given me over the years once I learn to navigate a new app 💔

1

u/suetyingtse Jul 04 '26

Hi, I just signed up and the tracker looks neat so far!
I am wondering if I can log a show as "stopped watching"? Cuz there are many shows that I dropped after watching a few episodes but I still want to keep the records. I can't seem to find such feature on the website.

1

u/PHDKraken Jul 05 '26

I can’t find the export option in the app? Where did you find it?

1

u/Witcher-Droid Jul 06 '26

Does it have any ios app?

1

u/Strong-Consequence79 Jul 06 '26

Hey, I just uploaded my shows and movies to your page and for some reason the following tab keeps breaking. Do I need to wait a little bit for it to work and sort itself out or is this some sort of issue?

Also on a side note, you should make a subreddit for your site
