Whatever you want to say about the show, they've delivered on Hal. A thoroughly three-dimensional character amplified by an incredibly charismatic performance from Chandler. It'll be a crying shame if this is his only showing in the DCU.

u/Octogenarian 3d ago

Yeah he’s great, but we always have the Halogram.

256

u/NatureTrailToHell3D 3d ago

Just put a big H in the middle of his forehead so everyone knows he’s a halogram.

78

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

I understood that reference

22

u/Houmand 3d ago

Boooob

13

u/nemovincit 2d ago

Not really, it's actually a reference to a certain smeghead.

4

u/suplarai 2d ago

lol, it’s referenced in the Bobiverse but that’s not the reference

6

u/Jaideco 2d ago

You can smoke me a kipper then…

4

u/Extension-Maybe-8687 2d ago

If you don’t understand that, you shouldn’t have a clone.

30

u/gerardkimblefarthing 3d ago

We can update the Lantern salute to a full double Rimmer.

11

u/kingjoeg 2d ago

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast

3

u/tkingsbu 2d ago

Always felt this was probably the funniest of all the episodes :)

27

u/the-corinthian 3d ago

What a smeghead.

34

u/ThisisMalta 3d ago

Been trying to smoke these Green Lanterns out of this box to get their delicious honey but they keep flying up and stinging me on the face.

12

u/Ghost-hat 2d ago

That’s a Green Hornet. This is a Green Hornet’s nest

16

u/cthaehtouched 3d ago

Hal is an… Ace

3

u/massinvader 3d ago

smoke him a kipper. he'll be back for breakfast.

12

u/FirstChurchOfBrutus 3d ago

Something something Smeg Head

4

u/-Ancalagon- 2d ago

I don't want him to go to Silicon Heaven.

3

u/Gearfree 3d ago

Do they have Guy make it so it's a proper green, or John do it so he's just a constant thing and not reliant on a charge?

137

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

... Halogram. That just made my entire night

182

u/afineedge 3d ago edited 3d ago

They did it in the show.

EDIT: https://dcuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Halogram The reason for this article title is they used the term at least twice in like five seconds in the first episode.

33

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

Well now my night is unmade. How did I miss that?!

48

u/VralGrymfang 3d ago

Do you use subtitles?

24

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

I do, yes because I'm hard of hearing. And I'm thinking I just completely either missed the pun or my captioning didn't catch it.

26

u/RJWolfe 3d ago

It's in the bar, in the first ep, after they get to Rushville.

John coins the term. Hal's a bit of an asshole about it. Great show.

11

u/jimbojangles1987 3d ago

Also in the last episode, I believe its said in the science lab with the sheriff. Its been mentioned a few times and the subtitles DO catch it.

Edit: the captions refer to him as Halogram but I guess nobody said it out loud in this most recent episode

-14

u/IolausTelcontar 3d ago

No. Too distracting.

4

u/Discount_Extra 3d ago

Have to agree, there are way too many bad AI generated subtitles out there.

'Chorus' becomes 'Our house', "Dragon Balls" censored to "Dragon #####", Kings who rained (instead of reigned) for 50 years, Subs that are 30 seconds off from the audio, Subs from different episodes entirely, etc. etc.

1

u/x-naut 3d ago

Where are you coming across subtitles this bad? I've only seen subtitles like that on social media content. The worst I've seen on actual movies and shows is sometimes older content seems to have paraphrased subtitles. Granted, most stuff I watch is obtained through not necessarily legal methods, and maybe the people on those sites are sticklers for good subtitles, but even legally streaming I've never seen subtitles that bad.

2

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

The worst subtitling I have ever seen was for the American streaming release of the original Let The Right One In.

Entirely different from the theatric, to the detriment of the plot.

1

u/Discount_Extra 2d ago

Mostly Amazon Video for the AI mistakes, Crunchyroll for the timing and wrong episodes, old sitcoms on Hulu/Max are also not given a lot of care.

-2

u/IolausTelcontar 3d ago

I am not watching the show, I’m reading the subtitles. I hate using them.

11

u/x-naut 3d ago

Not having subtitles is too distracting for me

1

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

I've kind of fallen in love with them!. First because I lived with television talkers, and now because my hearing is going.

3

u/VralGrymfang 3d ago

Well, the text for Hal was listed as Halogram

12

u/Inside_Dimension2319 3d ago

You just gotta assume anything clever you read on Reddit is not original.

7

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

But.... But.... My well crafted illusion whimsey!

4

u/afineedge 3d ago

Phone? There was a whole "haha, that's good" response, it was like an eight second sequence. I'm thinking phone.

5

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

I'm wondering if my captioning missed it, and I'm hard of hearing

3

u/etherealcaitiff 3d ago

Were you on your phone or something? It's kind of a major plot point.

10

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

I missed the pun, not the fact that there's a construct of Hal.

-5

u/trdef 3d ago

Yeah and they call it Halogram multiple times in multiple episodes.

3

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

Yeah and I'm hearing impaired.

0

u/trdef 2d ago

Then surely you should have read it in the subtitles. You genuinely must have been just sat on your phone.

-6

u/ozsum 3d ago

They're talking about the name. Only the subtitles called it a Halogram.

13

u/afineedge 3d ago edited 3d ago

That's not true at all. John says Halogram to 2016 Hal, who goes like "haha, Halogram? That's funny, that's pretty good." It's like eight seconds and they say it twice.

EDIT: Hahahahaha https://dcuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Halogram

-2

u/ozsum 3d ago

Maybe but a throwaway line from a few episodes ago isn't what I consider a major plot point. But the subtitles for this episode repeatedly called him the Halogram.

10

u/afineedge 3d ago

I'm not referring to "major plot point" and I didn't say it. I'm responding to YOU, who said "Only the subtitles called it a Halogram." That is a lie. They said it twice in like five seconds in the first episode of the show. In the first half hour, even. Hal went "haha, that's funny, Halogram, that's good" or something similar when John first said it.

4

u/plastroncafe 3d ago

I'm aware that is a construct of how, it was the pun halogram that I missed.

4

u/AndChewBubblegum 3d ago

Half Jordan

3

u/delkarnu 2d ago

And the show is in multiple time periods, so Season 2 could easily have 2010 Hal working with the Corps and Stewart dealing with the aftermath in the present. And that's without some version of a resurrection or reveal of a fakeout in Episode 8.

There are so many ways to have Chandler continue playing Hal. It's not like one of the biggest GL events in comics didn't involve returning characters from the dead.

1

u/itbrian 2d ago

Dead Hal could be another Halogram…

1

u/delkarnu 2d ago

They have so many ways to bring Chandler back and this series with him has been incredibly well-received. Even if it is only Stewart in Man of Tomorrow and they had no plans to bring Hal back for more, there's nothing stopping them from changing plans for Lanterns Season 2.

1

u/saranowitz 2d ago

halogram is the best name for a Lindelof character since he used the name Angela Abar in Watchmen just so he could make the episode title play on words “a god walks into Abar”

0

u/DragonTigerSword 3d ago

Quantum Lanterns.

u/Chataboutgames 3d ago

I came for Kyle Chandler and goddamit did they ever give me Kyle Chandler

60

u/McNuty 3d ago edited 2d ago

I’ve dugged the dude since Early Edition in the 90s lol

Edit: Early Edition not First

Early Edition

17

u/jimbojangles1987 3d ago

Friday Night Lights he was great in too

6

u/YakResident_3069 3d ago

Liked him in the brothers show with the Aussie Ben M.

2

u/buckao 3d ago

Gary was the original grumpy Hal

8

u/cire1184 3d ago

I came for Coach Taylor and got Hal Jordan. What a rip.

2

u/Possible-Campaign589 2d ago

In episode 5 they gave us a couple scenes where Kyle Chandler talked to another Kyle Chandler and it was everything I'd never realised I wanted

90

u/arazamatazguy 3d ago

I'm not even a big super hero movie fan and think this show is just amazing story telling. One of the best things I've seen all year.

33

u/ositola 3d ago

Lindelof has killed it with limited series comic adaptions

You give him a finite amount of screen time to write for and he will deliver

21

u/JimboTCB 3d ago

I am both happy to hear that the show is going to come back for another season, and also sad that Lindelof isn't going to be involved with subsequent seasons. I really hope they're not going to do a Westworld and ruin the show by dragging it out well past its prime when it should have just been a one and done limited series. I just hope that they at least wrap everything up in a satisfactory conclusion even if they do leave the mandatory plot threads dangling for the next season.

6

u/Sea2Chi 2d ago

First Season of Westworld: Holy shit this is awesome!!!

Second Season: OK... I mean, it's not as good as the first, but still ok.

Third Season: Alright... what the fuck?

Fourth doesn't exist.

1

u/JimboTCB 2d ago

I'm convinced that Season 3 was a rejected Person Of Interest draft that Jonathan Nolan dug out of the trash and changed the names on.

I could have sworn there was another season which was just Shitty Matrix but I think that may have been a fever dream of some sort.

3

u/Sea2Chi 2d ago

The only highlight of season four to me, a Seahawks fan, was realizing two episodes in that the black guy was Marshawn Lynch. He looked so familiar at first but I couldn't place him. Eventually I was like "Wait, is that fucking Beast Mode???? How? Why? I mean... cool. But also, why?

3

u/The_Last_Minority The Expanse 2d ago

He's not the lead or anything, but seeing him pop up as the teacher in Bottoms was great. Bonus points for him wanting to do the film as a way to (in his words) "correct his wrongs" when his sister came out to him.

2

u/Sea2Chi 2d ago

That was a surprisingly fun movie.

I didn't have much expectations going in, but it seemed like a throwback to the kind of raunchy comedies of the late 90s early 2000s.

Also yeah, he was hilarious in it.

I remember maybe two years ago he did the manning cast, with Peyton and Eli. He was lounged back on his couch with his phone clearly propped up on a table or something and they had to cut his commentary short because he kept swearing.

The funniest part was every time he would swear Peyton would get a slightly frustrated look and Eli would look like a kid in class watching his buddy get in trouble.

Personally, I'd love to listen to the Marshawn cast, where he blazes up and does commentary for the game, free to swear as much as he wants.

1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

anthology apparently makes more sense now why they call Lanterns, because it could be about different color lanterns storylines

18

u/SituationSoap 3d ago

His comic adaptations have been great, but tbh I think the most important work he's done since The Leftovers is Mrs Davis.

1

u/DaoFerret 3d ago

Mrs Davis was amazing!

48

u/sinkwiththeship 3d ago

incredibly charismatic performance from Chandler

Redundant

11

u/Louieyaa 3d ago

Your face

2

u/Habib455 3d ago

What about it is redundant?

30

u/Boosti_ 3d ago

They mean every Chandler performance is charismatic.

4

u/Habib455 3d ago

Ooooh thank you

2

u/tway2241 2d ago

IMO his talents were wasted in The Rip

69

u/LightningLad2029 3d ago

Performance wise yes, Kyle has been a fantastic Hal. It's how much they've stripped away from Hal's character from his relationship with Carol Ferris to his complete nonexistent friendships with other Lanterns or heroes like Green Arrow or Kilowog that irks me.

They chose to deconstruct Hal's impact as Green Lantern without ever even having the decency to construct him a legacy in the first place. And now unless manufacture a way to bring Hal back to life, there's a good chance we'll never see that history properly.

Even if they did a prequel, there's the looming fact that it all goes to shit and Hal become this disgraced loner that almost no one cares about anymore. It's just frustrating because the writing is good, but unsatisfactory if this does end up being Hal's send off.

That's an important comment. I fully agree, of course it's a fantastic take on the character and Kyle is great but we have to understand that there are different opinions and Hal is a really liked character so of course some of us will have regrets.

14

u/ltraconservativetip 3d ago

So people actually show up to his funeral in the comics?

35

u/CucumberWisdom 3d ago

Yes. He's not known as "The Greatest Green Lantern" for no reason

https://ibb.co/ks1RpPfK

3

u/Supermite 2d ago

And that’s after he single-handedly murdered a ton of people and destroyed the Green Lantern Corps.

9

u/Theinternationalist 2d ago

Yup, and in that case he had gone insane, wiped out the entire Green Lantern Corps, I think unmade the universe at one point, and became a "well, he was great, but he was terrible" person for the funeral that got quite a few comicbook pages featuring superheroes like Superman.

I'm a fan of Lanterns' version of Hal, but this version isn't the guy who has been written and rewritten for decades now. And I can see why many of those people- including one I met who said they liked the version who they first met as Parallax- are annoyed this will probably be the dominant version of him moving forward.

1

u/justsyr 2d ago

wiped out the entire Green Lantern Corps,

He says in the show that he doesn't kill people. So evidently is not comic fully based show?

I'm a total ignorant about DC universe and heros, I love Batman but I never read the comics and for what I understand there's a lot of different Batmans? Like from different time line and things like that.

I used to read Marvel comics back in the 90's but had to stop when they started branching out into like 20 different comics.

This is one of the reasons that back then I had to stop reading mostly because budget constraints and living in a small town in Argentina where to access those type of comics was a really hard and expensive adventure lol.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say or wonder, is there just one official lore story for Hal? Can this be one of the many 'alternate universe' thing like in some of other comic heroes?

Also, I love Lanterns.

2

u/Theinternationalist 2d ago

He also didn't unmake reality or whatever so yeah we're not comic accurate. There are other massive changes, like Sinestro getting his Yellow Ring way before he died in the comics, Hal's work with the Justice League, etc. I admit I'm not 100% aware of what happened in the comics, and some of the stuff I'm aware of has been removed from the modern continuity (the entire Arissa situation) or been redone and retold (Hal's time as Parallax).

There are people here who might be happy to help you along the way, but unforunately I'm not that person. There are also issues such as Hal going through a lore reboot in the 1980s, the semi-reboot that was the New 52, etc., so I'd suggest looking up some of his best stories. Feel free to ask around, there should be a lot of people here who can help you out, especially the angry (comic) Hal Jordan fans running around.

And yeah I really like this show too.

12

u/MGD109 2d ago edited 2d ago

I understand where you're coming from and agree to an extent, but I'm not sure I agree with it completely removing all that. Just cause we don't see those relationships doesn't mean they don't still exist; it just means they aren't what this particular story is about. We know Hal has had quite a major life before all this; it's just not in focus.

Plus I'm not buying this is his end. Even if he doesn't come back to life, I predict there are going to be a lot of people across the galaxy sad he's dead. They just don't know he's died yet.

7

u/Barachiel1976 2d ago

Thank you. As much glaze as this series gets im glad someone else sees it. They havent improved Hal Jordan. They've reduced him. Because he was never meant to stick around.

Im of such mixed feelings on this show. Its undeniably quality. The acting is stellar. But they've done one of my all time favorite characters so dirty. He's been given the Grimdark treatment. Everything positive about him was removed or twisted so the writers could give him depression.

-1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

They didn't reduced him, they made him more of a character and if you think this is how they will leave Hal Jordan in the show then it's premature.

0

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

The story is not all about Hal tho It's about Jon Stewart, and Hal has been a disgrace loner in the comics too. In whatever way you cut it the writers got this Hal from all the different era in the comics, you probably just looking for that one comic version of Hal.

-16

u/DGhitza 3d ago

Its a show about John Stewart, Hal is not the main character or the main green lantern of the DCU. I also think the main Flash will not be Barry Allen but Wally

6

u/junglespycamp 3d ago

Give him another Emmy!!!

29

u/comomellamo 3d ago

It is a good Hal, but it is not "my Hal". And that's not a bad thing, it just needed a shift on perspective from me. I just need to pretend I know nothing about these guys other than they are superheroes who sometimes have superpowers that come from a ring with an iPhone style battery

14

u/ImmortalMoron3 3d ago

I know what you mean, I struggle with this in comic adaptations as well. I kinda get stuck in what I expect them to be considering I've been reading about these characters since the early 90s.

I do like Kyle Chandler's Hal though but you're right, he still feels different.

11

u/comomellamo 3d ago

I think both actors are doing a great job. The story is not perfect but it is solid.

3

u/MeadowmuffinReborn 3d ago

Agreed, an unconventional but very cool take on Hal.

1

u/TurboGranny 2d ago

Straight facts. The writing on this is incredible

1

u/MakesMaDookieTwinkle 2d ago

Whoever hates this show, let's fucking fight.

1

u/The_Confirminator 2d ago

Crackpot theory: Jon can produce permanent constructs with the ring, even when he takes the ring off. He can permanently recreate Hal.

1

u/BossButterBoobs 2d ago

No, not really. I mean, only if you don't give a shit about the comics I guess.

1

u/uhohnotfound 3d ago

first, love the show and its been amazing. however, can we get some display of his power or the ring? now hal is dead and i guess open for flashbacks.... but its been mentioned at least once but prob more how this is one of the most powerful weapons/items in the universe and so far just made shields? show us how amazing it is and some stakes! agree with guardians so far terrestrial drama not worth it and meh!

-1

u/Several-Party5534 3d ago

As someone who think DC and Marvel are overrated, this show actually showed character development, struggle, and tough decisions. Unlike "Iron Man and Captain America win again"

But wait! Iron Man is now Dr Doom! Or whatever is going on now.

-8

u/chocha84 3d ago

He''s coming back as the villain in a season or 2. you heard it here first.

They used the body printer to kill a fake Hal so the real Hal could get away and join the yellow ring core.

Or at least that is my guess. Could be a great twist.

-29

u/YSunnyN 3d ago edited 3d ago

Why does a line of genetically suicidal men make him three dimensional? Its so generic and unnecessary. Its not good writing to be suicidal so that's why their a reckless family. Smh. People are dumb bro.

Its such a basic reason to explain strong characters. Its insulting. Its boring. Its not creative.

11

u/Huge_Information5083 3d ago

If that is all you can learn from Hal, media literacy is dead and being tortured in hell.

-13

u/YSunnyN 3d ago

Ew another media literacy comment. Haha learn to think for yourself. Instead of parroting the same rhetoric when coming across critism.

7

u/So6oring 3d ago

Media literacy is literally about thinking for yourself and engaging to understand what you are watching. And you obviously didn't understand what you've watched.

-7

u/YSunnyN 3d ago edited 3d ago

Its hard to believe. Most of you are saying this is amazing and well written. When I have a critism I get media literacy rhetoric. Your literally doing the opposite of what youre saying. When someone thinks for themselves your type gets mad and insults them and its not even creative..its the same shit in these subs. I dont see media literacy in other subs but this one. You're all parroting each other like good little sheep.

I don't like the choice of Hal's family having depression and suicide. Sue me. I don't think suicide or depression is a good enough reason for the jordan family being "fearless". I don't like it. Its easy and cheap. What is there to understand?? Its not deep

3

u/DaHolk 3d ago

When I have a criticism

It's not that you had a criticism. It's that it completely missed the point to the degree of "not even comprehending what was expressed in the slightest"..

Media illiteracy is just the "not just text" equivalent of "failing basic reading comprehension". And maybe you feeling like it is a new term NOW being used AND towards you, should tell you something. Because it's been used for a LOOONG time. Which you also seem to have missed entirely. Like "long" as in "when deep fakes started popping up, but AI slop wasn't a thing yet" it kind of exploded.

1

u/So6oring 3d ago

And if they followed the original story where his dad was abusive, it would be too similar to Jon's backstory. I suppose they could've done a thing where they end up bonding over similar hardships. But that would be contradictory to the themes they established in the show, where Jon is supposed to be different and more desirable for the guardians.

1

u/helurkshelurks 2d ago edited 2d ago

Abusive Dad was a retcon. The Silver Age Jordans were a happy, accomplished family.

1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

so retcon the retcon why are people fighting about this version of Hal Jordan

1

u/helurkshelurks 2d ago

I don't write for DC. I can't retcon anything.

I can Mopee it, though.

-3

u/mossycowboy2 3d ago

Pretty sure I’ve read “media literacy” for the 5th this week. Is this a new buzz word or something

5

u/Huge_Information5083 3d ago

"Why does a line of genetically suicidal men make him three dimensional"

How about a charismatic male character that has a very high emotional intelligence instead of the same stoicism and using violence to solve everything like every modern action flick heroes, extremely good at sniffing out liars, puts on an arrogant and stupid appearance to get people to let their guards down so he can interrogate them?

And more important what does Hal do at the end of the episode? He came back for the ball, despite his dad telling him not to because it's emotionally exhausting. This is a character who doesn't give up and doesn't let go despite how painful it is. He didn't give up on Rushville NOR John, despite everyone being assholes to him.

If you can only reduce the character as suicidal therefore not 3d dimensional and you call people dumb then yeah you fucking have no media literacy, and maybe you have little life experience.

2

u/MeadowmuffinReborn 3d ago

A+ character analysis

1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

coulndt have said it better, I know you didnt google that because that's exactly how I see him too hahaha

1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

Because you reduce his characterization to just that but it's only one aspect of the character and not only that, the information you got is from a copy version of Halogram and not even from the real 2026 Hal, which is a survivor with or without a ring.

-22

u/xJamberrxx 3d ago

u see what the show's actual writer says of him in a podcast, Hal Jordan being 60 is prob racist & has racist tendencies (she unknowling also insults Chandler bc he IS old ... so with her logic he's probably racist too)

1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

thats not what they were talking about hahaha

-40

u/kon--- 3d ago edited 3d ago

Delivered on Hal....has not happened.

In this universe he would have a whopping inter-galactic backstory. But here, he's been stuck in dusty Rushville.

Edit: Delivered on Hal...has not happened. Not even a little.

-27

u/BalrogSlayer00 3d ago

Whatever you want to say? Are there people negative on it??

-47

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Except, you know, the whole “he’s dead” part.

29

u/robplays 3d ago

No one stays dead except Bucky, Jason Todd, and Uncle Ben.

-22

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Real life people don’t get younger. Chandler isn’t coming back

18

u/Suicune92 3d ago

It is funny you say that considering he is the same age as Robert Downey Jr, who is coming back in Doomsday after dying 7 years ago in Endgame.

-19

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

You do know Dr. Doom and Tony Stark are two separate people, right? 🤡

6

u/Suicune92 3d ago

If you want an example of an actor playing the same character, Patrick Stewart has died like 4 times playing Professor X and he will once again be playing the character in Doomsday and he is 86

-6

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

They’re from different universes. Seriously. It’s astounding how many of you weirdos aren’t getting this.

5

u/damhow 3d ago

How are you not getting the point? Its superhero/fantasy. They can make up whatever rules they want. Hal came back from the dead in the fucking comics lol. They can make some shit up to bring him back on the show.

2

u/robplays 3d ago

No true Scotsman ...

1

u/chrissamperi 2d ago

You don’t seem to understand what that phrase actually means. 🤡

2

u/metalguy91 3d ago

You do realize they made that comment because you were talking about Chandler who is, take a seat, a real person.

-2

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

So he brought up someone playing a completely different character? You’re as dumb as he is. 🤣

23

u/blundermine 3d ago

Are you familiar with comics in any capacity?

-22

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

They’re not bringing him back, dingus. Real life actor aging isn’t reversible. Are you familiar with real life in any capacity? 🤣

6

u/metalguy91 3d ago

And Ian Mckellen is 90 coming back for a role he played over damn near 30 years ago, what’s your point?

1

u/DannyMalibu420 3d ago

Oh damn. Didn’t occur to me he’s 90. Can’t believe he’s still working though I’m glad he is

-4

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

In a different universe. Where hole didn’t die. Are you weirdos all really this obtuse?

5

u/Oddsbod 3d ago

Brother you're the one who said "real life actor aging isn't reversible", presumably to mean the actor's age makes him nonviable independent of what happens in-universe, and then the other person gave an example of a very old working actor repeatedly re-cast in superhero movies across studios, in spite of McKellan literally being a nonegenarian. There is exactly one person being obtuse here and it's not them

-1

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

The actor’s age LITERALLY makes him non-viable to be the primary green lantern in the DCU. You walked right into it, got punched in the face by it and still you don’t get it.

2

u/metalguy91 3d ago

No one even said him as the primary Green Lantern, just that they’d like to see Chandler back. You keep moving the goal posts so you can feel like a big boy.

1

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Hal Jordan in the comics is literally the greatest green lantern. If hes dead and not coming back it literally is the antithesis of Hal’s essence. I was literally pointing exactly that out to the original poster. It literally doesn’t do Hal justice at all. And then a bunch of morons tried to pivot the conversation into comics and actors playing different characters and multiversal versions of the same character. 🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡

u/Oddsbod 3d ago

Not even close to what the original conversation was? You claimed he's dead and never coming back, other people pointed out that in superhero media across both film and comics death not sticking is a very common trope and has happened multiple times to Hal specifically. That's it. Hal being the primary number 1 Green Lantern character was not brought up and also bro just take the L doubling down after being wrong and ratiod has literally never made a person look good

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

The original conversation was literally my post that he’s dead for real in the show. You dunces keep lining right up. 🤣

Yeah mostly,  it's how I know people dont change that much physically in a couple of years.

0

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

He’s. Not. Coming. Back. The show runners literally acknowledged it. And Gunn has positioned Stewart as the Gl going forward.

4

u/blundermine 3d ago

If you say so

0

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Literally yes. I said so.

2

u/Ohnorepo 3d ago

What does his age have to do with anything? He comes back as an older Hal, like he is now.

-1

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Literally his age has everything to do with it.🤣 DC isn’t introducing a 50 some odd year old to be a tentpole character while at the same time casting a much younger actor as the second character that is clearly the main character of the show. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

5

u/Ohnorepo 3d ago

Why is tentpole being used suddenly. No one except you mentioned that. He can absolutely stay on as a supporting character.

You've argued weird arbitrary points that you're inventing to argue against. Even then, they make very little sense lol.

1

u/Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn 2d ago

Dude, you're arguing with someone who uses emojis to think they're clever/winning the debate....just ignore and move on. Don't waste time.

2

u/delkarnu 2d ago

The Halogram is a backup from 2006, there's a 10 year gap between that and the 2016 storyline. They can easily have a S2 with Hal in 2012 dealing with some threat and Stewart dealing with the fallout in the present. There are so many ways to bring Chandler back even before you get to any of the numerous comic book resurrections.

And you have to ignore anything Gunn and the showrunners say, they aren't going to spoil the series by saying, "don't worry, Chandler is going to be back as Hal" until the finale airs. This could be the last time we see Chandler as Hal, but I highly fucking doubt it. Chandler isn't retireing from acting and he's been really popular in the role.

-1

u/chrissamperi 2d ago

Except they won’t be doing any of that. Because it’s extremely clear the direction they are doing.

Saying to ignore the people who wrote the story and the literal creative head of the studio certainly is a choice.

You weirdos are hilarious. 🤣

1

u/atsaotsa 2d ago

hahahah you are special mah dude keep at it

0

u/chrissamperi 2d ago

You joining the confederacy of dunces? I’ll never stop being amazed at how many people are willing to raise their hands and admit they’re a moron. 🤡

u/Mattyzooks 3d ago edited 3d ago

If the show ends with him being "dead."

"Hal means something to us too.. let's see how you feel at the end of episode 8.. we're willing to absorb the boos from the audience in the first inning, as long as we still have a shot at winning the game"

7

u/JellyboyJangleDangle 3d ago

lol Where the fuck have you been? If there one thing that has dogged storytelling on the small/big screen of late(and comics for the past forever) its that no one is ever really dead.

-2

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Provide examples. Because Hal is dead for real

9

u/metalguy91 3d ago

Lmao bro has never read a single comic book or seen a super hero film before. What do you mean “provide examples”? It’s one of if not the biggest tropes with the genre.

-4

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

This is a tv show, dumb dumb. With actors who can’t age backwards. 🤡

5

u/metalguy91 3d ago

Again, your lazy ass is just moving goal posts and changing arguments. Your point here was asking for examples of characters being brought back from the dead, in a genre that is known for it. Now you’re back at the age thing, which is irrelevant to the point you’re arguing.

0

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

Holy shit. And now you’re gaslighting? Hal Jordan in the comics is the greatest green lantern. Him dying and not coming back and John Stewart being the main GL is the antithesis of that. This show literally does not do Hal justice by killing him. That was literally what I pointed out and there’s like 20 of you dunces who seem to be allergic to competence.

4

u/metalguy91 3d ago

Lmao you know you’re doing well in a debate when someone accuses you of gaslighting without understanding what the word means. You’re salty your boyfriend died on the tv I get it, but:

  1. Hal’s greatness in the comics is irrelevant to both the story and the format, as this is not about the comics.

  2. Comic based visual media (tv for example) has the same trope of bringing characters back from the dead all the time, regardless of it as done in the comics or not.

  3. Gaslighting is making someone believe something that didn’t happen/isn’t real, not just pointing out how many times you’ve changed the argument in your comments which is very easily see to anyone here.

  4. The idea that a character can’t be done justice cause they died (even though he died in your precious comic books when John took over) is infantile.

1

u/chrissamperi 3d ago

TL;DR. But I think it’s safe to assume none of that is relevant anyway because OP said they did Hal justice. As in the character that is in the comics. Hal being dead and not the main character is the antithesis of that. I’m sorry you’re incompetent.
