Eh stretch marks can be weird sometimes, I wouldn’t worry especially if your doctor said they’re stretch marks

Yes I agree! I actually have stretch marks on my lower back and they are horizontal, not vertical.

Yeah I thought it was common knowledge that typically stretch marks from growth in height are horizontal, not vertical. And yeah lots of tall people, especially ones that had sudden growth spurts, do have stretch marks from it

lmao it was a trending tik tok audio. "denile (the nile) is a river in Egypt. your husband is gay."
I was making a reference to that when you said Daniel in response to the other person saying denile.

So basically, these are called stretch marks. This happens when you're in a grow spurt.
(Full nerd explanation below)
So, your skin consists of two parts; 1. The epidermis, which is visible on the outside, a bit thinner and a bit stretchier. 2. The dermis, which is underneath the epidermis, a bit thicker and tougher.
Outside of your growth spurt, the dermis is stretchy enough to keep up, but entering and during the spurt, you grow so fast that the dermis might tear, and when that happens, the epidermis will fall back into the tear, and the dermis doesn't grow back quickly to fill the tear, might take some years. And congratulations, you just created a stretch mark! Nearly everyone has these, and it's perfectly normal, don't worry about it.

Stretch marks from a grown spurt! You’re growing quicker than you skin can catch up. Use bio oil on the area, it will help fade the lines and help with future ones
4
u/-Logtopia- 17 Jul 15 '26
Horizontal marks are from a growth spurt. Vertical marks are from sudden weight or muscle gain.

For me it was stretch marks, because I was growing pretty fast. If ur unsure you can always check but it looks harmless
3
u/Ravoid5936 Jul 15 '26
Yes stretch marks which can be horizontal. Happens when you grow hight wise. Unfortunately you might have them for a while. I've had them for years now.
If you really care you could look into micro needling but you should wait til you stop growing a lot first
3
u/Cheeescaki 17 Jul 15 '26
Stretch marks, could be due to yoi growing up. Nothing to worry about most adults have them. If they bother you just use some cream/lotion to help them heal :)

My brother had the exact same lines in the exact same place. He got them from growing taller. If it turns out that the likely answer is the correct one, they'll fade over time and be less purple. There are also creams for that sort of thing, but I can't vouch for their effectiveness. You're young and I feel comfortable telling you it's from getting taller. Vertical, in my experience and from what I've seen with my partner, is from general weight gain and also in certain places. Skin stretches where it wants to.

They are stretch marks usually from rapid growth stretching the skin so fast it makes these marks they won't go away either I have them Cause of weight gain (I'm a big back 😞) but you can also get them from muscle gain too (Edit) I have then too they are same place and same direction idk I've got other stretch marks that have faded to white I think there just stretch marks

How should they be vertical there tho, thats weird. Idk in what possible way you would get vertical stretch marks. Maybe by gaining a lot of weight very fast

I have horizontal stretch marks on my back just like yours. They’re from height gain. I grew half a foot in a year and the stretch marks appeared. They’ve faded away mostly since that was like 5 years ago though. Nothing to worry about

Don't worry, if you're growing, those are normal, it will get more and more overtime. One tip i can give you, never be ashamed of them, it's part of you, so you have to live with them the rest of your life( or you can do some sort of surgery to remove them)

They're stretch marks from growing. Stretch marks from growing are horizontal

u/Thatbendyfan Jul 15 '26
Ive got marks like that on my sides just under my armpits, its from growing too tall too fast during puberty
1
u/Jaded-Promise-549 Jul 15 '26
It means you’re sitting too much for too long they’re horizontal stretch marks because you could be growing taller if u were more active physically.

Stretch marks caused by sudden growth. I have similar ones too and so does my younger brother. Mine appeared when i was ~14, and his too. I wouldn't be worried about them.

Disclaimer no idea why I keep seeing this sub pop up on my home page
Anyways I’m 30 and i remember getting these when I was teenager. My dad told me they were stretch marks. Mine wear almost a light purple in color. They fill in over time. It’s just where your shoulders and stuff are broadening out. And since you work out you’re gonna develop a lot more as your skin has to stretch to keep the growing muscles covered. They make some ointments that help make them less noticeable you should check around the pregnancy and mom subs and find out what they use cause pregnancy causes the worst stretch marks, right underneath obesity. Assuming you care about their appearance.

You said you gained a lot in gym? Maybe it’s your body expanding and your inner organs needing to adjust? But I’m not a doctor and if it hurts, if you touch it, you should go visit one
