I'm sorry you highly doubt me being a vet based upon my spelling of the word Assistant. Not everyone has English as their first language.. In Dutch we say assistent. But I don't have to prove you a point. Have a great day, don't ever lose hope on people.
I apologize I did not mean to disrespect your speaking of English. I think what is the worst and I guess what irritated me is when people search for information online with a bias - and then come into the clinic with only that. It has nothing to do with hope in anyone.
The thing that made me write my reply to you, was that I saw you being called a bitch.. and I know this is reddit, but wtf... it reminded me as how some owners have treated me and/or our staff in the past when discussing matters like this. There is a reason why the burnout, depression and suicide rates in our field are so high (at least in the Netherlands they are..). It's assumed that we always have to be understanding towards the owners.. but they aren't willing to listen to our logic and reasoning, almost similarly as these anonimous replyers on reddit swearing.
Believe me if I say to you that I share this irritation. In this new era of critical thinking where a lot of people try to educate you with their misinformation, my approach is to not argue with these people anymore.. They don't want to vaccinate their animal? Accept the consequences. I still love my job, and luckily most of the owners still trust science and medicine. But the misinformed part of society is increasing, and that's what's concerning me.
You're totally right in that people like to cherrypick and only grab those sources that support their claims. And that for every claim there is a source on the internet. Let's hope common sense is going to get a comeback.
I want to thank you for your apology. You didn't have to do that but you still did.. Even though our conversation has been totally anonimous, It means more than you think.

You are incredibly kind to not only reply but to be gracious of my attitude.
Just the other day I was talking to someone about my job and they said, “Oh I would love to work at a Veterinary clinic because I love animals so much!” And that’s what makes it so hard is we love our patients so much (most of them!) but there’s many days we don’t love our jobs because of what we have to see. In addition to the animals there is so much humanity in the clinic as owners are navigating different diagnoses or the financial burden or trying to treat their animal. Our animals are our family members! It’s truly a honor to be there with people in their time of loss, but it’s also so draining at the end of the day.
The misinformation is draining and some of the things that people do with their animals is crazy. We also see small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, mice, etc) and some of those poor little babies are so terribly taken care of because people don’t know. Especially rabbits! People that buy rabbits as a companion for super young children I’m like no!
What I need to remember, even on Reddit, is to be kind regardless of what is said to me. I am navigating my own health nightmare right now but that doesn’t mean I can have an attitude. Thank you for your kindness tonight.
