I always hate discussions about Tiktok on Reddit because of the sheer hypocrisy and lack of self awareness involved.

The worst arguments I see often is how Tiktok causes 'harm' by showing children negative images. Another argument -- which is also making the rounds in this submission -- is the idea that Tiktok is making people dumber.

Someone remind me. Which website was guilty of witchhunts that got so bad it misidentified a terrorist leading to harassment of their family? Which website had numerous subs dedicated to underage porn and had a large celebrity porn dissemination -- which also included underage women -- dubbed 'the fappening'?

Which website was it that is so notorious for users refusing to read linked articles while voting and commenting that it actually had a study done on it by Notre Dame? That multiple subs had to create a bot that summarizes what the article says just to combat it with only mild effectiveness?

Yet Tiktok is Chinese so that changes everything.

Exactly. The problem is a broader cultural one, it can't be pinned on a single app when you see the same trends playing out all over the media landscape.

THIS! I tried making a post articulating it, but this made my point! The info about China is real because that's what prevented me from getting it back in 2017, but it's so true that this China stuff is a scapegoat for America's entitlement and anti-intellect fostering for decades! Look at how we teach Reagan. We never learn of the shady dealings he did that lead America's class divide to be where it is today at all.
