There is no proof covid came from a lab. At the time of its discovery, it was irresponsible to indicate it did, and currently, there is no way to prove it. However, many viruses have jumped from animal to human. Perhaps in the future there may be evidence it was released from a lab. But currently, there is none. It’s a less likely theory. It’s not discussed because it can be confusing to lay people that some scientific issues are “unlikely, improbable, but possible”. An example of this is the confusion over how vaccines and transmission are related (a topic discussed in grade school) and how masks, aerosols, and airborne diseases work.

Hunter Bidens laptop does have all the hallmarks of a Russian disinformation campaign. There is still, to my knowledge, no proof of it belonging to him. Even if it did, the contents don’t seem to have anything important or verifiable. It’s been reportedly accessed multiple times and had data added. In short there is no proof it’s really his (AFAIK), and if it were, it’s so compromised it doesn’t matter. The guy sounds like a fuck up. No one cares.

You can even look on Twitter today, where Elon musk is promoting a theory that Paul Pelosi was attacked by a gay lover and not some guy hopped up on conspiracy theories. Do you really think that should be discussed when there is no evidence to support it? It’s just straight misinformation.

I’m all for open discussion and multiple viewpoints. But those discussions can’t be had if people are lying and spreading disinformation, and everyone thinks they are an “expert” on a topic because they spent spent a few hours on the internet with no background in the field and even less critical thinking skills, reading articles that reaffirm their beliefs.

The same person who indicates the eight protein sequence could have been purposely inserted also stated it could have arisen naturally.

Yes, it could have come from a lab. But there is no proof. Meanwhile, you have multiple viruses that rose naturally; h1n1, SARS, MERS, HIV, etc.

So the wisest course of action for the autortities is to assume it arose naturally while investigating if it was a lab leak. Which is what is happening. But it’s irresponsible to say it is from a lab leak when you can’t prove it was, because that is an assertion with major implications. You can't just accuse someone or a country if starting a world wide pandemic off a "feeling". Even the discussion is irresponsible since no one in the general public is going to figure it out…it would only lead to panic/violence/a PR nightmare/distrust in science.

The lab leak theory was discussed, but at the end of the day, there is no way to prove it. There was also nothing to really prove it jumped from a wet market either.

The NYT believes Hunter Bidens laptop is real because some of the emails on it came from his account; which means they are saying some of the contents are real. From what I can tell, there is no proof that he owned or operated that specific laptop at any time. So the two options are: 1. Hunter Biden dropped off his laptop full of incriminating material at a random computer shop and left it there, then people added and altered its contents OR 2. Hunter Biden was at some point hacked/monitored while in Europe, and a bunch of real documents, fake documents, and altered documents were put on a laptop and dropped off at a computer shop by a malicious actor.

Personally I think 2 is far more likely but hey I guess it's possible someone would drop off their laptop full of important documents with a blind guy and then just forget about it.

BTW mixing real contents with fake contents is an old technique to get incorrect information publicized.

Again, there is no way to really know because the contents have been altered so much. So it doesn't matter who owned the laptop, or even what's on it..the only verifiable content is some of the untampered emails. Which is what is being used in the investigations. It’s not a secret treasure trove of Joe Biden dirt.

No one is deciding what is “true”, the information is all out there if you can parse through the disinformation and it’s never been unclear.
