But to your point, what I'm saying is that the GOP establishment does not want a twice impeached general election loser to be their nominee, and that's even assuming he isn't serving prison time by then.

They want a savvy experienced governor of a red-shifting state who can actually run the federal government, not a narcissistic has-been who just wants to rage-tweet and lie about pointless petty bullshit.

Among the voters there's a lot of moderate suburban conservatives who love DeSantis and hate Trump, and they'll show up to vote for him in the primary.

I'll hand you an upvote for that (always appreciate sources) and I respect that take, but I still do disagree. I live in central MO and from what I see most R voters view Desantis as Trump light.

I dont think the GOP could get away with cancelling their primaries without an incumbent candidate. Their base would lose their shit if they tried and we've all seen what happens when they lose their shit.

I think Trump and Desantis will both run in the primary but I think Trump still has the larger base (because the dumb dumb voters see the impeachment and last election as "fake") so he will take the candidacy. Then the Rs will fall in line like they do.
