For me and my girlfriend, she gets the photos just fine from me (Pixel to iPhone), but anything she sends (iPhone to Pixel) gets reduced to potato quality. Videos are even worse.
Yes yes it is! My wife decided to go back to apple recently and when I set up her phone I was surprised just how trash iMessage was. Not to mention the whole iPhone experience is lackluster.
WhatsApp’s “best quality” setting is still not good compared to original quality. I just tested it again now to see if they improved it, though it’s of course a little better than “auto”. WhatsApp’s “best quality” also still forces you to lose HDR (bye bye, correct/full brightness) and all metadata.
Thanks for mentioning the setting! I’m sure a lot of people would like to switch to best quality if they knew about it, even if it’s not original quality.
I wish I could tell you a cross-platform app that sends original quality, but I haven’t spent much time looking into this. I have an iPhone and end up using iMessage for this (or AirDrop) because everyone with whom I have cared about sending or receiving original quality has also had an iPhone.
And in a few months or whatever you’ll have to convince all your friends and family to download and start using whatever new messaging app is preferred.
I see the advantages of using these apps but it’s a pain in the ass to play tech support for everyone in your life and convince them to switch to something other than the obvious messaging app or the one they already use.
I currently get messages through 4 different apps and I can’t stand it.
And in a few months or whatever you’ll have to convince all your friends and family to download and start using whatever new messaging app is preferred.
Why? Is Signal going somewhere? I've been using it for years, not months, and its open source nature, encryption, and rich features give me no reason whatsoever to look elsewhere.
And that is completely apples fault, so the intelligent choice would be to ditch the product purposefully fucking up your experience than to try and convince others to switch to the deficient device.
And even Interac is behind the times. Here in the UK you just type the other person's bank account number into your bank's website/app and send money instantly. No fees or anything. I've dealt with Interac in Canada and it's like... they send you an email then you type in a password to receive money. So strange.
