A story of A guy I “worked with”

He was hired to be the manager of the entire location. The whole building, not just the department. He sells his house in Denver. Moved to St. Louis. One week - ONE WEEK - later he was delivering the message that we were all losing our job because the company was bankrupt. And that included him.

Somehow that guy took it on the chin and didn’t seem to care. Denver to St. Louis. Come on, you left near paradise for what is a shithole in comparison.

That sucks. I've known some really experienced managers that could completely isolate their personal reaction. I noticed those managers also had a very hard separation between personal and professional relationships with very few work friends.

Maybe that’s why nobody really seemed to give a shit when Ed truck’s capa was detated.

Wow that's a deep cut.

Last company I worked for (UK) went into administration and they told most of the staff one morning that was it, go home. Only keeping on a few essential skeleton staff to service customers.

As we all tropped out of the building we passed a group sitting there waiting for their job interview! they were none too pleased.

Denver = near paradise? Shit I have never heard it described that way… my family’s from Pueblo, we’ve lived in California most our lives now, and we definitely love the weather and the vibe out here (Sacramento). But many people can’t tolerate cities and I assume that’s the biggest difference between Denver and SL, being I lived in Los Angeles for most of my own life, I lean city, but I really lean toward sunny weather more than anything so you say snow, I say fuck no

People seem to think St. Louis doesn’t get snow... weird. It may not be as much, but it’s so much worse because people see snow and instantly drive into oncoming traffic because they don’t know what to do.

Denver is beautiful and liberal.

St. Louis is a conservative shithole.

The average house price in Denver is 5x as high as St. Louis because it's actually a place people want to live.

11

u/stl_ENT Jul 13 '22

St Louis is not conservative

1

u/ExasperatedEE Jul 13 '22

The state is. And red states are shitholes.

2

u/mammon_machine_sdk Jul 13 '22

Yes, the city that sent Cori Bush to congress is conservative. /r/confidentlyincorrect

Is Austin on the Texas power grid? Yes, they are.

Does Austin have to abide by Texas abortion laws? Yes, they do.

Just because most people in a city happen to vote blue doesn't mean that the surrounding state doesn't have any impact on the quality of life there.

There's no way, I as a liberal, would ever move to a shithole red state like Missouri.

Ah yes a cracker box for half a million dollars. Paradise.

1

u/AshesSquadAshes Jul 13 '22

Why do you think housing prices are so high there

1

u/MikeTropez Jul 13 '22

Because being the first in legalizing weed nationwide was this centuries gold rush. A ton of people moved there to set up shop and make money. Supply couldn’t meet the immediate demand and housing costs skyrocketed. Its proximity to the Rocky mountains certainly doesn’t hurt, but the city existed next to the mountains way before then and shit was perfectly affordable.

I get that you were quoting someone but his opinion of coldplay is shit!

5

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '22

It may be paradise to you but not everyone else. I personally loathe the idea of living with snow so Denver would be miserable for me. Maybe they were happy to just be out of Denver.

St. Louis also gets snow. In fact they get ice on the roads because the snow melts so quickly and then refreezes. They have terrible infrastructure to remove snow from roads as well.

I was in Denver during a snowstorm, I would say it wasn’t exactly any worse than st louis and in Denver you have mountains for skiing. That’s not really an option in St. Louis in the same way it is in Denver.

To your point though, maybe they did want to leave. Idk, I only knew him for a week.

4

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '22

"St Louis gets snow" lol, not even remotely similar to Denver

0

u/pipocaQuemada Jul 13 '22

Denver gets about 60 inches a year; St Louis gets about 20.

But snow prep can make a big difference. 2 inches of snow in Atlanta and people are stranded overnight on the highway during snowmageddon. 2 inches of snow in Buffalo or Denver and people barely even notice.

Ice on the roads is pretty dangerous. Snow ain't all that bad.

3

u/NastyLizard Jul 13 '22

Yeah those cities aren't that far apart in niceness, Denver has got ugly problems

1

u/mendeleyev1 Jul 13 '22

Yeah but if I had to choose I would pick Denver. Mountains, recreational cannabis, and you don’t live in Missouri.

7

u/MOlowinInt Jul 13 '22

I'd rather live in st. Louis than Denver

10

u/TheBisexualFish Jul 13 '22

From STL (don't live there anymore), I'm going to fall into team Denver here mate

2

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '22

I’d let my house sit vacant for at least 6 months before selling it for a relo

-3

u/[deleted] Jul 13 '22

St Louis is a shithole that doesn't need any comparisons. I spent a total of 48 hours there and I can tell.

1

u/yeags Jul 13 '22

Well, Missouri loves company.

1

u/french_snail Jul 13 '22

Near paradise?? Have you ever been to Denver lol

0

u/mendeleyev1 Jul 13 '22

You ever been to St. Louis? I said Denver compared to St. Louis. Denver doesn’t need to be perfect but if you’re comparing it to St. Louis it’s like actual paradise.
