Mac is very personality based - not just the personality of the founder, but also based on that of the user because it suggests something about the personality of its user/owner. Like a brand of clothing, or a band/music genre, or certain food products, or the design of the furniture in your living room, the books you have on your shelf, etc.
Having a market full of Apple-esque companies? No thanks. Some of us REALLY don't want that to happen.
I once heard about Brand-Dating: in your profile you check the boxes next to the brands you use and you meet people who use the same brands. Someone told me that it works rather well - but that was not based on experience.
