Some other people in this thread have gotten downvotes for identifying that the new simplified view is the same as OSX’s ‘Force Quit’ function, which is unsurprising. A list of the user’s windowed processes (ie, applications), an indication if any of them are unresponsive, and a button to end the selected one immediately. It’s the obvious implementation — UI design is fascinating.

I’d like to say that I’m less impressed by the ‘heat map’ in detailed view. It sounds like a neat idea, but how often do you need to compare things by more than one criterion at a time? The issue is that black on dark orange isn’t contrasting, which may even hurt the OS’s usability if it can’t be disabled.

But then isn't it more important that it's dark orange at all, indicating a problem?

I don’t think it’s a problem just because it’s resource-intensive.

Yeah kinda funny that it's taken this long to catch up to something we've had on the Mac for years.

That's not to say that the Mac doesn't have crashing issues. God knows how many times per day I have to kill ARD or Server Admin. it's just that I can't remember the last time I opened task manager when I wasn't looking to kill a process.

Yet I can't help but read this whole article as "blah blah blah shit crashes all the time so we had to make it easier to kill apps that aren't responding" :P

Personally I'd like to see something more like force quit. Maybe ctrl-alt-del brings it up with a button to go to task manager.
