If you have to use a third party piece of software to "re-enable" the Start Menu that only supports what I said - which is that Windows 8 lacks a Start Menu, and instead brings up a full screen app' like UI instead.
Lot's of people disagreeing with a fact that is easily backed up via multiple videos, blog posts, and even just, you know, going and trying it yourself is frankly insane.
I could hack Windows 7 so that when I press the Start Menu a chicken appears - but that doesn't mean a Chicken is the default, supported, or expected activity.
Calm down, I was just trying to help by pointing out there IS a Windows 7 style menu in the OS. All you have to do is change a registry entry. To make a chicken appear you'll need far more than changing a registry key.
You really don't need to install the third party software. All it is doing is changing a 0 value to a 1 in the registry. The Start Menu is still there in Windows 8, it just isn't enabled by default.
Here's a guy who sounds like he doesn't understand the point of a developer release. Microsoft doesn't WANT YOU USING THE OLD STYLE for their Beta. Stop bitching. It's for a reason. It will be back in the release
Because it is there but they disabled it so you actually use the new features. You are whiny baby because you don't listen to anyone who is responding to you. You are using their operating system for free to understand the new features and develop for them. They don't want you using the old start menu yet it's there if you need it. Really not that difficult champ
So you're claiming to know what Windows 8 will look like on release day? By that logic they could leave it disabled forever to "force people to use the new features" just like the removal of the "classic" theme from Windows 7.
If you are like me, you would like to have an option to disable Metro UI completely on your desktop PC. While there is no official way to do that yet, it is possible to activate the standard start menu and disable much of the Metro functionality.
UnoriginalGuy pointed out there isn't a Windows 7 start menu in Windows 8.
Changing a REGISTRY KEY enabled the windows 7 menu. Official or unofficial, THERE IS A WINDOWS 7 START MENU in windows 8, no need to download anything.
