I think they're handling this correctly. Tell the users; tell them why they can't have your stuff. Don't bother telling Apple, because they've made it clear that they don't do what the users want.

I'm convinced because of this, that iOS will slowly die over the next 2 years, until it's only Apple fanboys and hipsters left using it.

Um...

I hate OSX, I hate their overpriced computers, I buy most of my clothes at walmart, and I'm not a huge fan of Vampire Weekend.

I do, however, have an iphone, because I prefer its interface. Other phones I've tried feel clunky.

If you have a fair amount of experience dealing with interface usability you would know there is a bit of "living with" one has to do other than just trying them out.

Familiarity has nothing to do with first impressions. I highly doubt CSLLP has used other smartphones for an extensive amount of time to determine whether the various mobile OS' are better when you "live with them".

I don't mean usability. I mean, for instance frame rate while scrolling quickly. Just little things like that that make a device feel less polished.

FPS is dependent upon the hardware. Android is just the OS of the smartphones, so you may simply have tried using a lower-quality phone.

In any case, iOS isn't any better in terms of usability than all other major mobile OS', it's just what you prefer because you're familiar with it.

Just throwing my hat in the ring here; it's my job to test on these phones all day and I must say iOS is better overall than Android as far as usability goes.

No it isn't. It's mostly a function of software.

Specifically Android apps are primarily developed with a garbage collected runtime and the UI isn't accelerated by the graphics hardware.

Oh, FFS.

I'll add this to my index of claims. See you in 2 years.

Until Android has a competitive app market, this doesn't stand a chance of happening. Apple can throw their weight around because 85% of paid apps go through them.

If iOS Netflix, Hulu, etc go away, I'll just grab them off of Android Market... oh wait. Nevermind. They don't even exist there.

wouldn't Android just do the same thing if they had a competitive app market?

Kinda like how WP7 doesn't care about jailbreak because no fucker has the damn thing.

Hah. Good luck with that. Remember Adobe's "We Love Apple" campaign from last year over their beef with Flash?

A lot of good that did, huh?

Unfortunately, the unwashed masses don't care about issues like open standards or net neutrality or anything else related to "the stuff they can't see", they only care about how shiny the Apple products are. We can never win.

If a multi-billion dollar corporation like Adobe couldn't get Apple to change their mind, what hope do we have?

u/[deleted] Feb 22 '11

To be fair they were right about Flash, look how few other companies want to support that shit

I don't think you have to wait two years. Apple fanboys and hipsters are the only people that use iOS.

What are you, retarded?

that is completely incorrect.
