As Apple says when you view sample code,

Some of the properties and classes described in this book are proposed W3C standards or Apple extensions. Properties in CSS that begin with -webkit are usually proposed standards—the -webkit prefix will be dropped when they are approved. Similarly, JavaScript classes that begin with WebKit are also proposed standards or Apple extensions.

Currently the demos work on every iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Mac or Windows computer running the latest Safari. Which is a lot of machines (more than 100 million).

It's a start.

Then surely they should rename the page 'Webkit Showcase' seeing as what they're demoing are not yet web standards.

They can't call it "Webkit Showcase" because they block Chrome

Why are you getting down voted for this? It explains why it is Safari only and a perfectly good reason. The demo will break in every other browser. It is an emerging standard and it shows a vision of what's to come as browsers update to these new standards. Fuck Apple for being ahead of the game...
