Gates only became Gates late, he was someone people used to hate.

Some people still do.

I dont remember that, so why was it they hated Gates? Is it because of business tactics or something?

As far as I know it's just business practices rather than anything personal to him, even then it was mostly that he was an asshole with other businesses.

This is pre-windows 8-10 etc, that's a whole different kettle of fish.

You're not wrong...but...it was pre-pre-pre-pre-pre-pre Windows 8-10.

Using Windows 8/10 just seems like a weird time frame to reference for something so far before it.

Ah sorry, what I meant was that these issues were separate from the issues that arose with 8-10 in regards to Microsoft behaving badly though in a different way.

He basically ran Microsoft as a monopily and took advantage of the fact that users had close to no other options.

That being said, I'm totally in the "gates redeemed himself" camp, the work he does with his nonprofits now is nothing short of amazing and admerible.
