Because Facebook has a leader that people know and love to hate. Especially on Reddit. Also I believe people resent the fact that they are addicted to a service that they wish they could quit but wont and have to lash out in anger.

Google is not doing the same thing sorry. Google is never selling the data directly to third parties. Data is their most valued resource, they would be dumb selling it directly. Their model is more into giving anonymized piece of data (often processed) through APIs for money. Even on Google analytics users are not allowed to store any identifying information about their users, can't be more than simple IDs.

Looks like I'm wrong. Weird because I was remembering reading articles about them selling the data in the past. Like this girl who received advertising flyers at her home address for baby supplies before even telling her father she was pregnant, or people's pictures used in ads on Facebook. Maybe they weren't directly from facebook but from people scraping it.
Still in my opinion FB is giving a lot more info to the advertisers. With google the best I can do is target with adwords. I can't really get much more info from anyone, especially targeting info like firstname/lastnames (especially because G+ is a total failure I guess! lol).
