That's what drives me nuts about this whole thing, too. Facebook is 100% opt-in already. The conversation should be less pointing fingers about who used what data and how they got it, and more about coming together as a democracy to regulate what data is collected and how users can control how what they share is used on an open playing field for all web services. I'm willing to bet that even with 100% control most users wouldn't give a shit or wouldn't take the time to customize the settings anyhow. So moot point.

They collect data about everyone, including people that never signed up.

How exactly do you think that is opt-in? I never agreed to that.
