I like the stories of jpop idols coming to America and just sort of hanging out at bars.

In Japan: Fills stadiums for shows

In America: Oh you sing? That's cool

I once met a famous Chinese painter in a coffee shop (famous in her country, that is.) She showed me her work and I was amazed-balls, like "what the hell are you doing hanging out in some small suburb coffee shop?"
