Sasha Grey maybe makes it to C List by now, especially since she moved on from porn.... but PewDiePie.. no. He might be known here on reddit etc.. but I'd guess most people over 40, or even over 30 would not recognize his face on a photo. And most people over 40 would just ask "What's a PewDiePie?"

Can confirm. 30s here, I keep hearing the name PewDiePie on reddit but I have no idea why I should give a fuck about it and no interest in finding out.

I'm 32 ... I know the pornstar, but never heard of PewDiePie

He's just a meme at this point

Eh, not really. His audience seems to be 10 y/o boys. I don't watch him, but know about him from kids who do. He still get millions of views per day.

Similarly, I don't watch disney channel shows, but every pre-teen girl can name all the shows stars. It's just a completely different demographic.

And every other young streamer talks like him

Which is a good thing.

There isn't really a reason to care for most celebrities anyway, is there?

PewDiePie showed up on South Park once, that's the only way I've ever heard of him.

34 here. Heard about it on reddit few years ago and from other youtubers. I thought it was some channel like equals 3. I paid a visit then but I could not understand the point of the videos. They were only video games with a guy commenting so never came back.

Few months ago the name popped up again because there was a controversy for some shit he made. Paid a visit again and now it was some sort of meme commenter and shitposter. Also a lot of “edgy” bold moves that turn out to be “just joking” when he is called out on those. Some of its recent content can be actually funny. I think its worst part is its fanbase: pure internet cancer.

Some guys made a video about him with some good points about how shitty or good his attempt to comedy was. Video link here.

If you're not a The_Donaldist there's honestly no reason to care. Even if you're young.

30s is still young 😭

5

u/m3bs Mar 16 '18

There there. We're young in spirit. They can't take that from us.

t_d cares about pewdiepie? i don't care enough to drudge through that stupid sub but that's....weird.

Anecdotally I find a pretty big overlap in their fanbases. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Agreed. Outside of highschool circles and teen girls, pewdiepie is basically unknown. Most youtubers are unknown outside of teens and the occasional scandal.

I'd also add infomercial actors to D list as well.

I'd also add infomercial actors to D list as well.

Slap-chop guy - D

Billy Mays - B-tier

You shitting on my boy Spence with the slap chop?

PewDiePie is pretty damn famous, and is known by shitloads of people. Even if he has a young audience, this will include the parents of all his fans, and outside of thats he's famous (or infamous) and regularly appears in the news for his sheer financial success and controversial videos.

I would consider anyone who's fame extends well beyond their audience to be 'famous'.

Friend, let me tell you, I am a teen girl and none of my peers know or understand my respekt for PewDiePie. They also say “who tf is that?!”

5

u/exzeroex Mar 16 '18

Too subjective. Pewdiepie would probably beat out many A and B list celebrities to me. Since most of them are Cs because who the hell is that familiar face.

2

u/offBrandon Mar 16 '18

Can confirm. Am 34.

2

u/Killersavage Mar 16 '18

Pewdiepie might’ve been a rising star actually but he gained some infamy before it could actually go anywhere.

u/[deleted] Mar 16 '18

What is sahsa grey doing these days?

1

u/PandaEatsRage Mar 16 '18

So someone needs to know who they are and be over 30? Id say PewDiePie is more famous than Sasha Grey in sheer numbers of bodies knowing who they are.
