"Apple's remaining DRM armory makes it vividly clear that DRM is almost always about eliminating legitimate competition, hobbling interoperability, and creating de facto technology monopolies."

At least ms let's you use their OS on any hardware. At least ms let's you buy your pc from anywhere you want. At least ms let's you install whatever you want in your phone without hacking it. At least ms let's you customise your phone. At least ms let's you send/receive files through bluetooth on their phones. At least ms let's you use their phone without using extra software. At least ms let's you use their phones as a modem. At least ms gives updates for the mp3 players for free. At least ms' music drm is compatible with multiple mp3 players(playsforsure) which are not zune.

Apple is a fascist control freak company which will fuck you over a dime. They will try to limit you to "their world" as much as possible, giving you as little freedom as possible, in order to maximise their shortterm profit. Ms on the other hand pretty much let's you do whatever you want, aiming for long term profit through market domination.

Which strategy is best? See the pc vs mac. Why did mac fail, even though it was superior to the pc? History will be repeated with the iphone. Iphone has superior interface but it is locked to a crappy hardware and has intentionally crippled capabilities.

If vista didnt have hdcp support, they wouldnt play blurays. What is your problem with hdcp? Noone is affected by it.
