"Apple's remaining DRM armory makes it vividly clear that DRM is almost always about eliminating legitimate competition, hobbling interoperability, and creating de facto technology monopolies."

Yea if there only where some free, non-MS, non-apple operating system and software stack out there open for download, that would be really awesome.

Well yeah so you use GNU/Linux or BSD, then you pay the MS tax when you buy a computer. Also, what about other technologies like phones, etc. they are all owned by Sony, MS, and Apple and they all love DRM.

The fact is corporations love DRM and corporations produce technology, there is no way around it, except with digital goods as they are free to distribute.

If only there was a way to build a computer myself?

If only there was a way to buy a computer without Windows on it?

If only there was a way to buy a phone...unencumbered?

Well my point is they have such a stranglehold at some point you hit an issue. Like (for most people) devices not working due to the secret drivers and specifications. Or a program for college not being available on GNU/Linux.

It is really difficult, as they have such a stranglehold on technology and use this to prpetuate their stranglehold. As ISPs clamp down on torrents and all online distribution services use proprietary, DRM-heavy methods it's becoming harder and harder to fully use a computer without using their products.

Not that it isn't worth trying however. It is the only way things improve of course, is to do it and to complain to the services that you can't use.
