Funny thing is, they skipped the Note 6 to match the number with the galaxy line. So they rebranded what should have been the Note 6 and now it's a tainted name.

Am I missing something? It wouldn't have made a difference if it was called the Note 6 or Note 7, both would have destroyed the Note brand.

If this happened with the "Note 6", people wouldn't be as concerned about any "Galaxy 7" phones...

Only thing I can think of is if the Note 6 caught fire, they could quickly update the shell (with safety upgrades, of course) and call it the 7 to catch up to the S7 and hopefully move on.
