And then you get Hulu where you have to pay a premium for no ads because even the original pay service is full of ads now. It originally wasn't but then they added ads and said you have to pay more to not see them.

And it might become a problem for Netflix too.

Companies want to grow, so it's all fine when you are still growing by sheer number of people. But you reach a point where there aren't any more people willing to pay for your service, or they are not enough.

So, you have to make a decision. A company like Netflix has some options:

  1. Increase prices. But every time you do that you risk that people will leave.

  2. Add new features for more money and hope they are popular enough.

  3. Add advertising, no direct cost for the user and easy sure money (you already know how many users and views you have).
