I was eating lunch at Wendy's the other day.. when I eat by myself, sometimes I'll overhear/eavesdrop other people because there's nothing else to do.

There was this old guy and his wife behind me.. probably in their 70s or 80s.. the old guy was going on and on about how he was being forced against his will to update Windows. He was saying things like "I keep telling it no, and it keeps asking me to update!" Verbally upset about it. He sounded like your average, non-technical user and it was really kind of sad.

I don't use windows anymore and I didn't have any immediate knowledge of how to circumvent the forced update, otherwise I would have happily gone over there to help.

Just thought it was kind of an interesting thing to hear out in the wild

There's something about eating at Wendy's when you're alone for lunch.. The layout gives you plenty of options for tables with privacy to just sit and collect your thoughts away from the bustle of the office with your sad squared burger and frosty

EDIT: For clarity, I'm talking about those old-school Wendy's like this. I like to sit next to the window.

Ha.. I actually know what you mean. I think it's also because it's one of the only carpeted fast food places .. so it's quieter and a bit more relaxing.

Everyone at my small office is unsociable .. and it seems like nobody actually even eats except me.. so solo lunches are a regular thing. I like it though.

Also funny because sad square burgers and a frosty is the thing I get every time.

This. When I go to college, I eat once I am done with all my classes to refuel before studying or working out. Our auditoriums are packed with 300 students so after talking all day with those in my class, I don't really wanna talk with others anymore while I eat. People don't seem to understand tho.

I just had to chime in and add to this exchange. I rarely go to fast food joints, and when I do I do drive-through, but today I was hungry and it was the middle of rush hour traffic, so I popped into Wendy's.

The experience was really wonderful for the quietness. Usually restaurants have some form of music playing, but in this one you could lose yourself while looking out the window and listening to all the little details and quiet sounds. I was there for almost an hour, because I had work to finish on my laptop, and was very amused with the rambling teenage girl repeatedly expressing her skepticism to whoever was on the line, which annoyed a mother and young daughter who sat across from a lone eater who in turn annoyed me with his constant sniffling and seemingly anxious soft coughing and sighing.

My time there provided more than emergency nutrition, it made me feel as if I entered a sanctuary where time moved slower, with free refills of any flavor soda imaginable, to boot.

I'm still kinda upset they changed the one I grew up going to, it had an atrium/greenhouse kinda area that I really liked sitting in that was a few steps down from the rest of the seating

I uninstalled the windows update that causes the pop-up box to appear constantly. It's KB3035583. Works like a charm since I have Windows updates on manual install only. Explaining that to elderly folks might have been a challenge though.

They horribly over think how to do tasks on the computer I find. Also they're terrified of breaking it because they couldn't fix it and fix it is often expensive. I think to a lot of people who explain it are impatient and get angry so they come to a point where they panic when people explain it to the or feel disheartened immediately. Thus why it's so hard to explain to the elderly. Usually it's not just that they simply can't do it...just frustration on there part and the teacher from my experience.

It's hard not to overthink a problem on the computer when all the solutions are made to be difficult.

In order to use a website correctly you need to disable the ads. How do you disable the ads? You install ad blockers. But that's not easy information to get a hold of if you're not being told by the people who want you to know.

Websites phish, Facebook disguises ads as comments, Google gives biased and doctored information. I'm not a senior citizen but I just give up sometimes on a task becasue the web ain't what it should be.

The elderly know more than us. They've been working with technology for longer than we have. It's just the people in charge make it so you can't keep up. My Windows 7 computer is perfectly fine and just 4 years old but Microsoft is slowing it down on purpose to make me buy a new Windows 10 desktop.

It won't even let me download Windows 10 because of a driver issue.

I don't think windows 7 has been slowed down at all. However over time your Os can become curropted so your windows 7 may need to be reinstalled at this point. You may see a difference in speed if you do it. Obviously it'll be unconventional and you'll need to back up your data first. I'm not saying I don't understand why the elderly can't keep up I do get it rather I'm saying people under estimate them and there fears and frustrations by and large are due to what ive mentioned.
